Chapter 40: The king (1/2)

Everyone started following after the butler without lagging behind. Ed, Hayato, and Emilia also moved along and situated themselves in the middle of the group of people. It was always a better idea to be in the middle, not the end and not the beginning. After leaving the hall, the group of people moved in a straight hall that they could barely see the end of, however after getting to the end the butler spoke to the group.

”Everyone we're meeting his highness, Uther Scale Pendragon. Please be on your best attitudes” Ed finally heard the name of the kingdom's king. It was the same as the legendary king of Britain of his previous world other than the Scale part.

The doors opened and the group took a look at a hall that was spacious and had as many decorations as it could hold. At the end of it, an elderly man sat on a throne room while a young girl was standing next to him. After the group got to the middle of the room they stood still and bowed down in front of him. They all followed the proper etiquette since they were now representing their countries; they were also of lower status compared to the king in front of them.

Scale kingdom was very famous for its military power and its exploits. The guild system seemed to work very well for them and they had good relationships with most neighboring countries. It was foolish to try and pick a fight with such a county.

After looking at the group of people for a while, the king finally spoke.

”You can be at ease. Now then everyone! Will you all follow me to the courtyard hahahahaha!” Everyone was thinking why would the king bring them to the throne hall if he was going to take them to the castle's courtyard anyway? But after hearing his laugh they knew it was a silly joke of his.

The group could only follow quietly.

After getting to the courtyard they found a circular magic looking diagram. It was big enough to be able to hold all of them.

”Now then everyone, get in!” The king spoke and went to the center.

Ed was kind of wary and asked the system what the diagram meant.

[The magic circle should be a group teleporting device] After hearing the system Ed kind of figured out what was happening. The academy was not in the capital. It was in an entirely different place that no one knew about.

He got on the circle and after everyone was on, it activated and they were surrounded by blinding light which they couldn't help but cover their eyes while it lasted. Soon, they felt their bodies jolt and the light disappeared. Everyone other than Ed was feeling sick, he was spared since he was used to using space magic's short teleport. He was also prepared since he knew the function of the circle.
