251 Steffy 1 (1/2)
Wendy's family didn't know of her current condition. No, they didn't even know that she was back to Alina.
Likewise, Steffy too was not aware. All she was informed was that the woman had to leave for a very urgent matter regarding her boyfriend. Heck, her phone calls couldn't even go through.
This was why even though she discovered that her sister was now very rich and could properly support a hundred of her, she couldn't take joy about it at all.
She was very worried.
'Sighs, that fierce Amazona really knows how to make people restless and anxious for her...'
A couple of days passed since she went back to Alina.
She had a tearful reunion with Sofony, but most of it was due to Wendy suddenly disappearing.
Even now, despite the cryptic message sent to her by the woman, she couldn't put her heart at ease.
If there weren't matters distracting her, mostly about university transferal procedures and ID processing, she would have sunk into deep and worrisome contemplation, reminiscing about their peaceful days three years ago.
After getting out of the university administration office where she just submitted her papers, she thought,
'I missed the days when the three of us are okay meeting up in an unpopular cafe or having pillow fights inside the bedroom of our previous apartment.'
In her heart, she was actually leaning more on the latter.
The joy she felt that time she hit a goddess' face with her pillow was so addicting. Unfortunately, in their three years stay in Country J, Wendy never gave her the opportunity to do that again.
'We used to be so carefree. Now, who knows. Even that apartment turned into ashes.'
She shrugged off the old memories and walked towards the gate.
To her surprise, when she took the left turn where she planned to ride the subway home, she saw a car parked there.
A handsome man in his early thirties stood next to the car door, looking so eye-catching in his business suit as he glanced at his wristwatch.
Steffy went over to him and exclaimed, ”Sir George?”
The assistant raised his expressionless face, the brightness of the day made the lenses of his thin-framed eyeglasses gleamed for a split-second.
Without dilly-dallying, the man said, ”The miss said that she's a bit guilty of not seeing you after the reunion at the airport so she asked me to fetch you and bring you to her.”
The twenty-year-old girl gave him a blank look before deciding to come inside the car. George also climbed into the driver's seat.
Curious, she asked, ”Is it okay for someone like you to come just to drive for me? I heard from her that you are a very prized secretary, like the presidents of some companies.”
George explained, ”I'm merely an employee.”
”Hmm.” Steffy went silent for a while. That time, the car was already moving. ”Weird. Shouldn't you protest if the request has nothing to do with work and is kind of personal, like this?”
The other did not reply. Steffy felt awkward since the whole drive passed without them speaking to each other after she asked that question.
'Maybe this high-spec man became annoyed at me. Did my mouth make me look so nosy and insensitive to him?'
Her brain processed his silence as a silent affirmation. The man couldn't speak of his grievances and could only swallow his pride to fetch an unruly girl like her.
She wryly smiled as she exited the vehicle.
After the assistant escorted Steffy into an almost sky-high building which read 'Starlight Entertainment' above, he had to leave her in the care of the receptionist because he received an urgent phone call.
The unexpected encounter happened quite some time after she was ushered to the lobby of the ground floor.
It was Steffy's request to not be escorted to the top floor. The girl was scared of her sister's sudden ascend in status. Also, knowing that she was not really Sofony's sister, but only a distant relative adopted, she didn't dare hold her head high and be like 'My sis is a rich boss? Nice, I'm rich and a boss too!'
”Are you sure, Miss Mendez?”
The receptionist stood there, looking nervous as she remembered Steffy saying that she was Sofony Mendez-Silver's sister.
”I have already informed one of the President's secretaries and they told me that the President is there, just dealing with something. I could try to connect the call to them so you can speak directly with the President.”
Steffy sat on one of the couches there more nervously than the other. The place looked so dreamy.
Earlier she made her eyes swept around the complicated interior of the place and saw how luxurious it was. The wall-sized screens flashing with advertisements or announcements were at least ten. The decors made it appear like she was in the lobby of a high-end hotel.
