Chapter 57 (1/2)
The faces of Zeng Weiming and Wang Fangni slowly appeared on the skin of Zou Zhengze’s torso.
They looked lifeless, their expressions alternating between joy, sadness, anger, and resentment as they muttered indistinctly, “Come, come, come…”
Upon hearing this call, the souls floating in the sky appeared even calmer and more peaceful, as though they had heard a pure, holy gospel. Uncontrollably, they flew toward Zou Zhengze.
Boom!
The biscuit-shaped explosive bundle of the flying cannon drew an arc in the air, spinning as it flew toward Zou Zhengze.
However, before it neared the man, it was struck by the thunder streak suddenly appearing from the dark clouds above. It immediately exploded.
The resulting shockwave tore a hole through the churning Demonic Qi whirlpool. Li Ang bent down nearly 45 degrees from the ground like a cheetah ready for a sprint.
His boot kicked up sand and a ferocious wind flipped his hood up. Adrenaline started flowing, causing his liver and muscles to secret glucose into his bloodstream. This gave his muscles a burst of energy.
His body burned as though it was on fire. Li Ang kicked off from the edge of the balcony, leaped into the sky, and rode the wind like a lonely boat in choppy water.
His figure was enveloped by moonlight. Mid-air, Li Ang took out a rifle and started shooting at the demon.
The sound of gunfire rang explosively as sparks dispersed into the night sky. The bullets, which had a cross-shaped indent on their heads, swiveled as they flew into the only hole in the Demonic Qi whirlpool.
The burning-hot bullet heads hit the demon’s wide body, tearing through the skin into the flesh and causing blood ripples to appear like a downpour wreaking havoc on a lake’s surface.
Half of the magazine clip was emptied before Li Ang landed heavily on another high-rise building’s balcony.
He should not stop the motion, so Li Ang ran frantically as his finger remained pressed against the trigger. His shoulder remained steady as it was impacted by the rifle’s recoil.
The front of Zou Zhengze’s body was covered in gold bullet shell fragments that glittered under the moonlight. The wounds seemed frightening but only made him feel irritated.
“Sigh.”
The demon, who had lost his human shape, frowned and sighed as though he was pitying Li Ang for his overconfidence. The flesh near the wounds wriggled and expanded like a fermented ball of flour, squeezing the shell fragments out before they fell to the ground with a clank.
Using one hand, Zou Zhengze directed the souls, slowly making them fly toward him. At the same time, he bent down and pushed his huge red palm on the floor of the balcony.
The tips of his fingers smoothly pierced the floor. With a low thud, Zou Zhengze lifted a huge piece of armored concrete slab using one hand and tossed it at Li Ang as if it was a Frisbee.
This slab spun toward Li Ang, who stayed in the same stance, ready to continue running, put away the empty rifle, and ran at an even higher speed. Then, he leaned back and slid on the floor on his back.
The granular stones cut his back, but Li Ang remained expressionless. The instant his feet came into contact with the stone railing at the edge of the balcony, he slammed his hand against the floor and pushed himself into the air as though he was high-jumping.
His body twisted and his field of vision swirled. The vestibule of his ear pounded from the zero-gravity state he was in. However, his legs accurately landed on the armored concrete slab Zou Zhengze had tossed.
Thump…
Using the armored concrete slab as a treadle, Li Ang made use of the recoil to change direction. He made a Z-motion in the air and flew toward Zou Zhengze like a meteor.
“Such showy moves!”
The demon cackled crazily, violence coloring his ugly face.
He then threw a punch. His arm, which was covered in bone spurs, approached the free-falling Li Ang in an explosive upward motion.
