Chapter 28 - XXVII (2/2)

”My point is,” Laia steals a glance at the door. She can only hope that her mother wasn't eavesdropping on them. ”You could have had just given me the script at school or something,”

”And risk Ma'am Anne scolding me? I'd rather not,”

”I didn't take you as a pussy,” The girl leans in with a toothy grin. ”But of course, we all have our fears and whatnots--”

”Just like your fear of me getting the first rank again?” It was the asshat's turn to grin at Laia in an infuriating manner.

Laia tries to calm herself by turning her back to the asshat and doing some breathing exercises she had to learn in order to control her anger issues. When she deemed herself calm, she faces the asshat again. ”Why are you always so keen to infuriate me?”

The asshat shrugs. He remains silent for a while as he, for some reason, seemed to realize where he is for the first time. ”Why are you always so keen to make me infuriate you?”

”Don't turn the question back to me,” Laia hissed.

”Why? Is it because you have anything to say to defend yourself?”

Looks like the breathing exercises won't work when it comes to dealing with the asshat. Laia settles to just leave a huge gap between her and the asshat, as she saunters towards the corner of the room.

Something about the asshat's presence makes it hard for her to breathe. Maybe his extensive perfume or how his breath still smells like cigarettes. Or maybe just his whole rotten personality.

Glancing at Laia over his shoulder, the asshat quickly makes his way to where the girl is. Regardless of the gap between the two, Laia was still able to recognize the faint scent of strawberries and cigarettes lingering on the asshat's breath.

Are there seriously strawberry-flavored cigarettes?

Like the herbal ones?

”You like that?” The asshat hums, his breath tickling Laia's ear as he unexpectedly draws closer to the girl's side.

Laia pushes him away. ”I definitely don't like it!”

To her shock, the asshat was quick to grab her wrist and pull her close to him. ”Really? I thought you liked strawberries,”

The girl's eyes widened. Where in the hell has the asshat even heard that sort of false information? ”I have never even eaten strawberries in my eighteen years of existence!”

Unexpectedly, the asshat lets go of her wrist and genuinely looked taken aback by the girl's revelation. However, he was quick to replace his shock with a teasing grin. ”Would you like me to donate a box of strawberries?”

Laia rolls her eyes and pushes him roughly, making the asshat wince. ”If you're done with judging my lack of ability to eat the fruits you eat on a daily basis in your bathtub, you are free to leave--”

”How'd you know I eat my strawberries in the bathtub?”

”Ugh,” Laia opens the door and pushes the asshat towards it. ”Leave!”

Contrary to Laia's expectation of her mother possibly eavesdropping on them, the older woman was actually reading the daily newspaper on one of the couches. Her eyes widened upon seeing her daughter pushing her so-called friend out of their house. ”Laia, what are you doing?!”

Laia smiles at her mother in a fake manner which she hoped was convincing. ”He has more errands to do!”

The asshat stops Laia's pushing by spinning on his heel and facing her. He winks at the girl's mother. ”I definitely don't have any more errands to finish,”

”Laia--”

”He definitely does!” Laia glares at the asshat with so much intensity she hoped he would turn into melted butter. ”I swear if you don't leave my house--”

”You can eat lunch with us!” The girl's mother claps excitedly.

Laia shakes her head desperately at the asshat. ”Don't you dare--”

”I would love to,” The asshat responds while keeping his eyes on the girl in front of him.

”Perfect!” Layla's smile grew even wider, as she looked at her daughter and at the boy she thinks is her daughter's friend. ”Laia, how about you take Samuel here for a walk? Show him around if you may. It still is early to eat lunch, after all,”

Her brows furrowing, Laia was about to say no when the asshat suddenly held her wrist and looked at her. ”Yeah, you should take me for a stroll around your neighborhood Laia,”

Laia steals a glance at her bedroom, specifically her bed, which was calling out to her. She would rather sleep the entire day than spend more time with the asshat.

Unfortunately, her mother's intent glare on her proved that the older woman would definitely not allow her to say no. Groaning in disappointment, Laia reluctantly nods. ”I'll go change my clothes,”

”Sure, dear! Wear anything except those that would make you look like an old lady!” Her mother shouts as the girl made her way to her bedroom.

A hoodie paired with shorts would definitely suffice.
