The Athenian magicians also used their manipulation of the light to hide their figure with light magic. What separated the two were the terror that they garnered.

If light exists, so does shadow. If there is a shadow, the Diurnal mages could appear from anywhere.

However, the Athenian mages had no method to conceal themselves like the Diurnal mages.

-- If they were suddenly attacked, what will they do?

Dark mages are able to appear out of nowhere from a person's shadow, if they attacked there would be no way to escape.

Until now, there had yet to have been even a single instance of a dark mage attacking a light mage but, the light mages were deathly afraid. That's why, generation after generation, they referred to the Diurnal Empire's king as the 「Demon King.」

For the thirteenth generation king of the Athena Empire - Kuroe, it was the same.

Even among the successive emperors of the past, Kuroe was especially a coward.

Kuroe thought that it'd be great if the Diurnal's king - the 「Demon King」was gone.

And then, finally he decided to solicit help from the 「Hero」and ordered him to subjugate the 「Demon King.」
