Chapter 27 (1/2)

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Ha Ka Du coughed but she couldn’t get Na Lam’s attention.

‘Lady Ha, you need this cape more than me,’ Ling Fei said and pa.s.sed Na Lam’s cape to Ha Ka Du.

‘Ling Fei, why are you too generous by giving her my cape?’ Na Lam asked.

‘Your Majesty, lady Ha is your concubine,’ Ling Fei said. ‘It’s Your Majesty’s duty to care about your concubine.’

‘Ling Fei, Ha Ka Du purposely fell into the pond to get my attention,’ Na Lam said. ‘Palace women have used to same trick too many times for me to fall for it.’

‘Your Majesty, I accidently fell into the pond…’ Ha Ka Du said.

‘Enough,’ Na Lam said. ‘I don’t want to hear your lies.’

Ling Fei saw Ha Ka Du cried and she pitied Ha Ka Du.

‘Your Majesty, not caring about your concubine is one issue,’ Ling Fei said. ‘Accusing your concubine is another issue.’

‘Ling Fei, I only want to protect you,’ Na Lam said. ‘How can you fault me for wanting to protect you?’

‘Your Majesty, I’m a commoner,’ Ling Fei said. ‘I’m not worthy of Your Majesty’s protection. Shen Yong, let’s return to the bedchamber.’

Na Lam wanted to argue more with Ling Fei, but he didn’t want people to witness their argument.

Consort Ha walked quickly toward Ha Ka Du.

‘Ka Du, are you alright?’ consort Ha asked.

‘Aunt,’ Ha Ka Du called and hugged consort Ha.

‘Ka Du, you should be careful,’ consort Ha scolded. ‘You could have drowned. Your Majesty, thank you for saving her life.’

‘Consort Ha, I didn’t save her,’ Na Lam said. ‘You should thank Ling Fei for saving her.’
