7 Chapter 7 (1/2)

The Soldier Mage Alteru 41670K 2022-07-22

Wilfred opened his eyes to a very bright light hurting his eyes and then closed them again. Breathing was painful as well, a sharp pulsation spread throughout his chest with every inhalation. Feeling around him with his hands, he was laid down on a soft surface, likely a bed, and he could not sense anything else. Wanting to know how he was, he did a quick [Status].

Well, getting a beating gave me a level I guess. Maybe surviving the beating? No new spells or skills though.

Meekly, he tried calling out, but his voice was very weak. His eyes slowly adjusting to the brightness were finally able to open. He had not seen this room before. A small wooden desk was against the wall to the right, the door to exit the room next to it. At the desk was a single chair, unoccupied currently. To his left, a small window peered outside, it seemed like it was early morning, the sun being out partially.

From his experience of getting injured on missions, Wilfred diagnosed himself as having had a concussion, two broken ribs and some minor cuts and bruises. His jaw hurt real bad, might be broken but he had no knowledge on that department. Shortly after his self-reflection, a woman entered the room.

In her forties perhaps, she kept her black hair in a bun and didn't wear a mage robe but instead a white tunic. One thing that stood out in particular to Wilfred was the size of her chest. Even though he was only an 8 year old boy, a near 30 year old man still resided in that mind. There was something about women in uniform that had always pleased Wilfred. There was nothing like getting wounded in battle and then getting some soft care by a beautiful nurse. Seeing Wilfred had woken up, she went over him and started asking questions.

”Hey, good to see you came around. You were in a rough shape but nothing that would require healing magic. It's also best usually to have the patient be conscious when we perform healing.”

She paused, waiting for Wilfred to say something. He was quite distracted though, the angle at which she was bent offered quite a spectacular view. When he realized he was staring, he nodded and she continued.

”Do you know where you are? Your name?”

Instinct took over, recalling his old world.

”My name is To--Wilfred. I think I may have suffered a concussion and broken ribs 6 & 5 on my right side. I am still combat ready. Am I still at the academy?”

”Now now, there's no need for combat. Yes, we're in the infirmary wing of the academy.”

”It's used more often than you'd think.” She added with a smile that could melt hearts.

”Do you recall anything from the incident? We found you on the ground in the early hours of the morning.”

Wilfred thought back, trying to recall the moment when it all happened. One second he was walking back the next he was on the ground. He recalled..voices, and a blow to the head. Not much else. It must have been someone, perhaps another student. He decided to keep it to himself, saying he didn't recall what happened.

”Hmmm I see. Very well. Here you go then. [Partial Recovery]”

A soothing light flowed out of the nurse's hands and into Wilfred. At first there was a slight discomfort, but Wilfred then realized that his ribs had been repaired and that his mind felt clearer.

”That should take care of it. Be careful now.” The nurse added.

”Thank you. I will.”

Walking back to his room to get changed and clean himself, Wilfred thought about who would have done this to him. Clearly some were jealous of his privileges, it's not like he would have fit well with a bunch of 15 year old in a dorm type room though. The prime suspects were likely Hovard and his friends, the boys that spent most of their time doing practical magic. Sadly, Wilfred was not at that point yet. He could use his [Wind Aura], it boosted his agi and dex tremendously but it didn't help him offensively. Sometimes he'd use it when late for cla.s.s but that was the extent of it.

Entering his room, Wilfred went to the small area past the bed, where a large wooden tub was filled with water to wash. He had found it hard at first, not having heated water anymore and bottled soap. After a quick wash and inspecting his body, not a trace remained that he was laying in a bed unable to move mere hours earlier. Healing magic was truly something. After changing into another outfit, a green robe once again, he headed off to the library once more, hoping to find some information on artifacts.

I need to bet that this will be big. Otherwise I'm looking at some very painful years ahead until I can actually learn some offensive magic.

The library was quiet once again with not even a Lucy in sight. Wilfred set out to the task of finding a book regarding Artifacts, combing every shelf in the south section. After almost an hour with no luck, he sighed from up high in the ladder, having done that section. There were still three more but the mere thought of going through all of those made him nauseous.

Looking around the library, Wilfred saw a new face. It was a student, likely first or second year tops, doing some reading at a table quietly.

I suppose I could take a break and go see him. I haven't really connected with any of my peers and it's better to have friends than enemies. I could also use his help to know more about the school and how things work. I believe we have exams soon and I don't know how to prepare for those.

Getting down from the ladder, Wilfred headed over to the boy's table and addressed him, trying to make small talk.

”Hey there. What are you reading?”

The boy put down his book and rubbed his eyes, stretching. He then looked up at Wilfred and was a bit startled.

”H-hey there. Oh, nothing much. I love reading about famous items and weapons, so I've been reading 'G.o.ds & Artifacts Vol.3'.”

Wilfred's eyes opened wide in amazement and then frowned. Of course he couldn't find it, someone else had it!

”I've been looking for that book for ages! Do you know much about artifacts?”

”A fair bit, why do you want to know?”

”Well, I've got this unique skill that no one knows what it does. It's related to artifacts though.”

The boy's eyes lit up once recognition dawned on him.

”OH! You're that little genius kid right? Would you mind if I a.n.a.lyzed you? I just, you know, heard a lot about you. You can do the same to me too.”
