”So..this it it? Death? Heaven? The afterlife?”

”Yes. You were not a devout believer but that is not what is required to enter heaven. The world is a complicated place and you tried your best. Could you have done more? Yes. But it would be cruel to deny those who have tried.”

”But..I..don't want this. This is unfair! Not like this!”

”Oh? Were you unsatisfied with your life?”

I clenched my fists and grinded my teeth. I raged against G.o.d and all manner of perceived injustices.

”Yes. I have many regrets. Why create a world with so much strife and poverty. Why do the rich get to live atop their ivory towers. So many atrocities done in your name!”

”Indeed. Although it is not solely my doing, human free will plays its part. But very well, I can accommodate you. You see, Earth isn't the only world. I will send you to Amethas, you'll be reborn there. You speak as if you could have done differently under other circ.u.mstances, I'd like to see that.”

(I paused, stunned. What was he saying?)

”Wait, so I'll be coming back to life?”

”Yes. Amethas is a very different world though. I will grant you some powers, you know it as magic on Earth. Perhaps you'll be able to fight against these injustices you speak of. Will you squander your powers for leisure and greed? Will you help those more unfortunate than you? It remains to be seen and I will be watching you.”

Just as quick as I had died, I was reborn again. It was a strange feeling, a body I was not used to. All my muscles felt tense and there was pain when I tried moving any part of my body. My eyes slowly crept open and I noticed I was in a wooden house, the walls made from wooden logs. A single window in this room let light inside and I had to turn my head away as the brightness was blinding.

Looking on the other side on the room after a bit of effort, a small woman sat on a chair near a bed, a bed I was laying in. She appeared to be sleeping, her head on the edge of the bed and her hands near mine. I tried speaking, but nothing came, my throat was dry and I was parched.

Using all the willpower I had, I moved my right hand, slightly grazing hers. The contact woke her from her slumber and she stretched, then looked at me. Our eyes met and hers grew threefold. She nearly jumped to touch the ceiling in excitement.

”HENRY! GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW! IT'S A MIRACLE!”
