Chapter 943 Devious Bastard (1/2)
Images of his arms around Julie, his lips on hers, and the two of them making love flashed through Jean's mind. At once, a disgusting feeling sank to the pit of her stomach. She wanted to throw up. She wanted to run away from him. This man used to be the center of her world but now was a stranger. Even his scent was foreign to her now. It was different like a woman's perfume was mixed in. Her head swam as the unwanted smell assailed her nostrils.
”Let me go... Get your hands off me...” She struggled desperately in his grasp and finally escaped from under him. Lifting a hand to her lips, she wiped furiously. Those same lips he kissed her with touched another woman's. She scrubbed hard at her mouth, as if wanting to completely erase any trace of him.
Zed watched forlornly as she swiped at her lips with her hands. She acted like his touch burned her, flinching at every contact.
”Why are you acting like this? Why are you pushing me away?” he asked weakly, his chest filled with knots that tightened with every breath. He wanted to understand why Jean was so distant, but at the same time, he was also afraid that her answer would be something he wasn't ready for.
”Why am I acting like this?” Jean spat. Zed's body stiffened in surprise at the undeniable bite in her words. ”Why indeed? I'm not the one who kissed his wife with the same lips he kissed another woman. You disgust me. How could you even bear to do that? I don't need your pretense, Zed. Do us both a favor and stop. I can't believe you would be capable of this. Why are you doing this? Is this your way of appeasing your own guilt? Is that it? You can cut the bullshit. I don't need your pity. I don't need anything from you. Let's end everything right here, right now.”
With those words, Jean lifted the quilt and attempted to leave, but Zed immediately leapt and grabbed her arm. ”Jean, are you crazy?! What the hell are you saying? ”
She turned her body sharply, returning his look with anger. ”You're right. I'm crazy. And that's because of you! I'm so stupid for pathetically following you. Look where that got me. In a foreign country, living like some lunatic. Just for a second Zed, can't you even think about how I feel?” The rage in her voice broke as a sorrowful lilt cracked through her words until they trailed off.
”Why won't you believe me? I've said this again and again. There is nothing between me and her!” Zed explained, helplessly coaxing her out of her anger and sadness. He didn't know what else he could say to make her believe him.
Jean laughed bitterly and smiled at him coldly. ”Sure. Will you tell me that you had not eaten with her yesterday? Or that you weren't the one who taught her how to use chopsticks?” she asked, her eyebrows raised, as if challenging him for his denial.
Zed froze at her question. She knew his movements down the very details.
”How... How do you know this?” he asked, dumbfounded.
”It doesn't matter. Let me seriously ask you
“Let's go and register our marriage on your birthday!”
Marrying Daniel should have been her best birthday gift, but everything was ruined the moment when she caught him sleeping with another woman on the day before her birthday.
