Chad was having second thoughts about acknowledging this. He knew it would upset Rachel. He nodded.

”I didn't believe it at first. My men saw his butler showing up in the police station and bailing them out. Kun was forced to do what he was asked. I think he was going too far.”

Chad knew what was going on between Rachel and Gavin. It was high time he stopped doing that to her.

Rachel was innocent though Gavin was still reeling from Landy's death. After all, she was pregnant with his grandchildren! It was cruel of him to hurt Rachel's mother and it must have been heartbreaking for her.

Rachel came back from losing herself in her thoughts. She picked a small flower into her hands, and her mouth broke into a smile of disappointment. ”I don't understand. He shouldn't have done that to me and my mom, especially when Hiram was not around.”

She knew Gavin suspected her father of hurting Landy, but surely he knew that she was pregnant now

He could be cruel to her, but how could he be cruel to his own grandchildren!

More than anything, it was wrong for him to take revenge on her mom.

”Rachel, don't you worry. It was lucky that Aunt Fannie wasn't injured badly. I told Hiram everything. He'll take care of it.” Chad tried to comfort, seeing her despondence.

Rachel slowly closed her eyes, shook her head and said,”He's Hiram's father, and Hiram is my husband. We will have to let it go.”

”Rachel! You must trust Hiram. I'm confident that he can handle his father!” Chad said confidently. He knew Hiram would be on Rachel's side this time.

Rachel was now the most important person in Hiram's world.

If the kidnapping in the theatre hadn't happened, he might take his father's side and turn a blind eye to what Gavin did. But he had let Rachel down once. He wouldn't do it again for his father's sake.

From now on, Hiram wouldn't let Rachel get hurt again by his family.

Chad left and Rachel wandered in the yard for some time. When she turned around to go back into the house, she was surprised to see Fannie standing in the corner. She had no idea how long Fannie had been there.

”Mom?” Rachel called out to her.

Fannie came to herself when she heard Rachel. She walked towards Rachel and said,”Sweetheart, I washed some fruits. Come and eat them with me.”

As she came closer, Rachel noticed that she seemed upset. She asked,”Mom, When did you come here? Why didn't you join me?”

”Just a little while ago. I saw you wandering and thought not to disturb you. Come on! Let's go and have some fruit.” Fannie said as she took Rachel's hand and walked her in.
