5 The Liu Familys Young Lady (2/2)
But thankfully Liu Sheng Xiao was there for her, though he was kind enough to take her under his wings, she could not trust him completely. Jiao Yu was naturally scared of trusting anyone after what happened, no matter how many people showed her kindness, care and love, she doubt she'd ever reciprocate. After all, this was what almost took her life.
Today after the literary class had ended, Jiao Yu felt uneasy and want to head home early and in a coincidence she saw a young lady gradually approaching. The female looked just over fifteen or sixteen and was clad in a pale pink peony patterned dress and her hair was combed in a fringed bun.Her complexion was fair and her eyes and brows were adorned with elegance and gentleness. Upon seeing her, she quicken her steps, grasping Jiao Yu's hands, ”Liu Jiao Yu, there's something that one must tell you and this must be kept between the two of us.”
Jiao Yu looked at the young female in front. It was Fan Zi Yi, the di daughter of the Minister of Rites.
In the three years she'd stayed in the capital, the only person she'd been closest with was liu Sheng Xiao, Jing Chu and Fan Zi Yi. She'd met and been with the other young misses from other family but Jiao Yu couldn't find herself to get involve with them, but Fan Zi Yi was an exception. She was neither overbearing and oppressive like the other young females in Jing, she's just too strange as she tries to befriend anyone she sees, very amiable, and Jiao Yu could faintly see herself in Zi Yi's case. Shehoped she wouldn't end up like her.
As expected, Zi Yi opened her mouth and said, ”Liu Jiao Yu, one could not wait to tell this news to you and one could not find you anywhere but thankfully one coincedentally bumped into you. Earlier I have heard from my mother that there would be a troupe coming to the Bao ChangChun today, and since I'm skipping classes, one cannot let anyone know about this matter but also cannotgo alone to watch, so you're coming with me.”
Zi Yi saw a moment of hesitation on Jiao Yu and her lips revealed a bright smile.
Jiao Yu's eyes were her best feature, Large almond shaped eyes, showing a gentle and confused look like a just born puppy. It was just that normally she would look stiff and was not lively and sometimes she would give a cold shoulder. And with the veil covering the lower half of her face, it gave an even sharper focus on those pair of eyes, making anyone bewitched with them. It was normal for an unmarried female to wear a veil but usually females do not wear them all the time, especially during the heat of summer.
It made her wonder what's underneath the veil, the girl in front of her must be hiding her beauty or a horrifying scar but she shook the thought away. It was not her business to know the secret of others especially if it was something to be hidden away, Zi Yi thought.
Both of them walked out of the Xia Renmin's doors and headed to the heart of the Ding capital in a horse carriage. When they arrived at Bao ChangChun(name of the restaurant), Jiao Yu selected the seat by the second floor window and the waiter mentioned a number of dishes before the two of them picked a few. It was only after the waiter left that then Jiao Yu said to Zi Yi, ”It seems that the troupe performing today is well renowned.” As she scan her eyes towards the restaurant's lobby, compared to the normal business hours of Bao ChangChun , today was the first time she'd seen so many people swarming in, probably just to watch and see the troupe that Zi Yi had been talking repeatedly.
”I also did not know how popular this troupe but seeing this in front of me, I can't just wait to see the reason why they are popular.” Zi Yi picked up the tea to drink.
”That's simple, the troupe that will be performing here is the Luo Kuai.” On another seat three other young females sat near theirs. Raising her brows, Jiao Yu turned her gaze from the crowd to the young females. ”Luo Kuai?” Jiao Yu and Zi Yi simultaneously asked.
The young female wearing a pale green dress scrutinized them arrogantly before saying, ”You peoplemust not have the luxury to know and see the Luo Kuai, the troupe from the Sui Empire and the only troupe that have ever perform both in the Zhou and Sui Imperial Palace.” Jiao Yu didn't thought that the troupe that would be performing was that big but seeing how this people are reacting, they're probably outstanding.
”So they're just popular because they've gotten the two countries' attention.” Zi Yi blurted out.
”Well yes, but that was not the only reason they are popular.” Another young female clad in orange said and as if on cue a shrilling noise sounded within the crowds.
The people in the second floor looked down and even the guests inside the private rooms in the third floor burst out of their rooms, looking both confused and startled by the noise they just heard. Downstairs in the lobby, the once beautiful and peaceful atmosphere of the crowd was replaced by chaos, people swarmed like bees; pushing and pulling as if they were possessed. The people in the upper floors still haven't grasped what happened downstairs except for a few people.
Jiao Yu furrowed her brows, staring at the large red marks that was plastered on the floor, beside it a woman was lying cold on the floor with her eyes open while a man stood in the middle of the lobby, swinging a bloodied knife and screaming to anyone who approaches him.
Scream after screams sounded again, coming from the female beside them and from somewhere in the third or the lobby but that didn't matter to Jiao Yu, as she noted something from the scene below. Two people caused the commotion today, one lying on the floor, the other with a bloodied knife but the most obvious thing she noted was their clothes. The woman was clad in a dress that had a design that she had never seen before while the man wore the clothing of a Zhou scholar.
Beside her Zi Yi nudged her arm and spoke, ”No wonder they are extremely popular, they act so real!”
Jiao Yu stiffly turned towards Zi Yi and didn't know if she should cry or laugh. Grabbing the hand of a confused Zi Yi, Jiao Yu starts to step backwards heading towards a door in the furthest corner.
