3 Full moon (1/1)
She can't wait to see their faces when she destroys the very thing they all cherished and hoped for.
.....
It was already time for the second of the five night watch (21:00-23:00) yet the village head still
had not received a good news or seen Jiao Yu, he fiercely glared at the man beside him and can't help but ask, ”Have you said a word to your daughter?”
Jiao Yu's father was frightened by the glowering face of the village head and said, ”No, I was certainly careful to not slip a tongue and besides I have not been here for long, so how can one tell anything to one's daughter?” He tried to ponder for a moment, to recollect if he had said anything to his daughter and he had collected nothing, shaking his head again to the village head.
The village head saw the man shaking his head and affirming that he had not told his daughter anything, and he believed it as he, himself knew how long this man beside him had been gone, he was somewhat relieved but the restlessness in his heart still could not be quelled. Now his only problem is the village's benefactor, if it was not for his son they would not be this bothered but thinking about it again, all of his blame fell onto that little girl.
Some people who help search for Jiao Yu came back empty handed, making the village hed and Jiao Yu's father to feel uneasiness.
”Are you all stupid and blind! Go look for that girl again! And make sure that when you get her, tie her up and gag her if you need to! I've wasted enough time for this.” Cheng Qiu roared to them. He really wasted time here, it's almost time for the moon to reach its peak, the perfect time to do the ceremony yet, the bride is not here. He could not wait any longer, grabbing the village head's collar he told him.”If that girl still doesn't appear after quarter of a shichen, look for another one and replace her or we can just settle with your little girl.” (shichen= 2 hours, so a quarter might be equivalent to 30 minutes, I'm not sure though.)
Cheng Qiu let go of the village head and head over to sit inside his carriage, he could not waste time anymore as he remembered what the fortune teller told her that in order for things to go on his way and make his son rest in peace, he needed to look for a girl who can be his son's bride and it needed to happen 15 years after his death and the ceremony should be completed during the peak of the fullmoon.
Cheng Qiu felt reluctant to do this at first but his son's constant visit on his dreams is something he could no take any longer, he admitted that it was his wrong for misunderstanding his son, thinking he was having an affair with one of his concubine and accidentally killed him when he was muddled headed with rage and disgust. He realized his mistake when he found out the truth and until then, his life was on board with the word 'misfortune'. Cheng Qiu wanted to reflect on his wrong doing, so he helped people while trying to look for a way to find a bride.
Crickets chirped away as the night air stilled, behind a tree trunk a shadow could be seen moving but because of the darkness created by the enormous trees and the light the moon produced, the shadow blended with the darkness and yet Cheng Qiu definitely saw something glistening not far from where his carriage is stationed.
Cheng Qiu thought that his eyes were playing with him but then he saw the shadow lurking near his carriage, since, he was the nearest to that 'thing' and calling someone to inquire what saw would make the other party to be alerted, he decided to go alone. He got off his carriage and tried to locate where the shadow was but instead of a person, he found a thin shredded red cloth on a branch. The little girl is finally here, Cheng Qiu thought.
He lifted his gaze to see the same red cloth on another branch of a tree and onto another one, seeming like a person had come and didn't notice that the dress one was wearing was torn apart as it ran away. Cheng Qiu slowly followed the torn cloth and stopped only when there was no more red cloth that could be seen. He looked around him but found nothing , the person and the red cloth vanish just like that and if he was not holding the cloth in his hand, he would've convince himself that this was an illusion.
Cheng Qiu turned around to go back to his carriage but before he could take a step, he suddenly felt a sudden pain and his vision slightly blurred as the cold muddy ground closing up to him, then all went to black. Then a shadow stood over him, covering half of his body.
Panting slightly, Jiao Yu did not bother to take another look to the plump old man before her and just grab the man by his arm and oversize robes. Dragging someone's body was not an easy feat, especially when the body was three times bigger than ones body but Jiao Yu was determined to do this even if she had to sacrifice an arm to just get her and the body near a water fall.
When she finally gotten near the water fall, she took the outer robe and other things the man possessed aside from his middle and inner clothes, then tied both his hands and feet together interlinking behind his back. She made sure that the rope binding him was tight and nice before also taking off her outer clothes once done, she glared at the outer clothes she took off. It was the dress her aunt gave her earlier.
Everything that has happened tonight was still not completely absorbed by Jiao Yu but one thing she understood was that if she were stay here longer, her life would cease to exist.
But at least, she's not the only one who lost something.
Gritting her teeth and clenching her fist, she threw the red dress to the water fall, then jumped.
Not long after, huge black smoke and fire could be seen from somewhere and with the wind getting stronger, anyone would doubt that fire would cease from spreading, eating away everything it touches.
