99 A Family Reunion (2/2)

”Do you know where you are Mrs. Zi?”

”Yes, hospital. May I please have some water? My throat hurts.”

”That's good; Nurse can we get our lovely patient some warm water.” Dr. Sean instructed the nurse as per Zunnie's request then continued questioning her.

”Mrs. Zi do you recognize everyone in this room and can you tell me how you know them?”

”Alright; This is my papa and only brother Eyan, my best friend San we've been friends since childhood and my husband Alex. You and your nursing assistants I only just met.” She moved her eyes to every person as she pointed them out.

Everyone in the room chuckled to her last sentence.

”Ha-ha, that's wonderful. Thank you, Mrs. Zi. I'm asking these questions because you hurt your head badly in a car accident. Do you remember that night?”

”Um...” She paused before she continued.

”Go on honey it's okay…” Alex urged her.

She smiled for him then spoke;

”The last thing I remembered that night was getting hit from behind by a car. Alex was driving, and I was worried, but the car slowed down. We continued driving but after a few miles, we suddenly got bumped into violently. That's all I remember.”

Everyone was quiet as she spoke and when she stopped everyone lost in their thoughts, happy she had not forgotten anything.

”Mrs. Zi let me say this, you are a very brave and lucky lady. You remembered everything which is amazing, and your supportive family has been here every day with you. I will let you get some rest now. Later we will come back to get a full body CT scan and run some other test. So, get plenty of rest.”

Dr. Sean pulled the family outside the room to speak to them. Sanua opted to remain in the room with Zunnie.

”Your family is blessed really lucky. I really thought she would have memory some complications. It's a miracle she is able to remember you and everything until the accident. Do continue to monitor her and let us know if she shows any signs of memory loss, or other complications. She can only eat soft foods, for now, please feed her nutritiously.”

”Thank you, Dr. Sean.” They all replied in unison causing the doctor to smile.

After saying goodbye and thanking the doctor they stepped back into the room. The family was one again.

Alex was so glad she had remembered them, that he forgot to call his family to tell them of the good news. He dialed the home phone and informed them then walked back to her side, his heart overflowing with love as if a burden had been lifted from his shoulder.
