52 MEET THE PARENTS (1/2)
Given that Zunnie had taken him to meet her family, Alex also wanted his grandparents to become acquainted with her.
Informing his grandfather about Zunnie had gone well. Since he did not want to explain his and Zunnie's relationship over the phone, Alex had not given his grandfather details and only said he was seeing someone. At that time his intention was to cut his grandfather off.
Old Mr. Zi had telephoned Alex to invite him over for dinner with the Monte family. Alex was familiar with the Montes and knew they had a daughter two years older than him. The moment his grandfather mentioned that the Montes would be joining them for dinner, He immediately declined and said he was seeing someone.
Thinking about the brief conversation, a neurotic feeling filled Alex's heart. Old Mr. Zi had only asked Alex to bring his over, so they could meet the women who stole his heart. He had not informed them that the person he had proposed and to whom. When he called the Zi mansion, all he said was that he found the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with, and he was bringing her to meet them.
He liked did things his way. He was the basketball teams star and had gotten a scholarship to play for a renowned university overseas. Although he followed the rules, Alex always felt that being restricted seemed like a nuisance.
Now that he had someone important to love and protect, he was happy. The void his dead parent left behind had slowly been filled by Zunnie. When he was with Zunnie, he could be himself and not care who happened to be watching.
A somber feeling came over him as he looked out at the dark sky and saw droplets of water falling from it. The rain reminded him of the day his father died. It had rained all day just like it was currently raining.
The party they were hosting was in memory of his father who had it every year. To keep his memory alive, the tradition had not been abandoned.
Alex picked up his phone and dialed a number. The person answered immediately.
”Lex? How are you baby brother? I promise you I'm not neglecting you. Is everything okay?” Sasha Zi's cheerful voice could be heard on the other end of the call.
”Sash, yes you have been neglecting me. I haven't seen my niece in two months. Why exactly did you move so far away?” Alex replied.
”I'm only an hour away, Lex. That's shouldn't stop you from coming.”
You're right I should try harder. Did you get the invitation for next weekend?”
”Mhm…”
”And…?” Alex questioned his big sister.
”I'll be there. Don't worry. Is everything okay? I miss you.”
