46 WORMS AND CAKES (2/2)

I opened the fridge silently. The cake was well hidden behind containers of some of our cooked dishes. I got it out carefully and placed it on the table. I looked at my cake.

I made a chocolate base and then for the icing, just a minimal layer because I really don't like too much icing on cake. I placed first a chocolate icing and then I drew a heart at the top. Inside the heart, I wrote 'To more Christmases with YOU :-*'. And then I added some little hearts and flowers outside.

Well, it looks presentable but I hope this tastes good.

I held the cake and went to where Minho was sitting.

”Okay, baby. You can remove the blindfold now.”

As soon as he opened his eyes, I literally saw his jaw drop. He was there slack-jawed, and I was standing in front of him, anxiously waiting for his reaction.

”Y-you.. You made this?” he stammered.

”Well, yeah. Good thing I didn't waste the last ingredients for the cake.”

”But I thought you wasted the last ingredients?”

I winked at him.

”Oh you little devil! I almost pitied you!”

”Haha. So, do you like my surprise?”

”Of course. Yes. Wow. You pulled it off. Wow baby. This is so amazing!”

He swiftly grabbed the cake, placed it on the table and hugged me.

”Cassidy. Thank you! You don't know how proud and happy I am that I have you with me.”

”Well, some things might change if you taste it. So, go have a bite.”

He released me from the hug and laughed. ”However it tastes, I'll still love you. No matter, this is a huge progress! You could perfect it in no time.”

”Yeah, enough sweet talks. Go now.”

I gave him a saucer and a fork. I sliced him a portion.

I watched him eat the cake, nervously waiting for a violent or pleasant reaction.

He remained quiet for a time, making me impatient. ”So? How is it?”

Instead of answering me, he took another bite. I stared at him, wide-eyed. What the?

”Hey, Minho. How is it?”

”Hmmmm.”

”What hmmm? Quick! Tell me! Is it good? Or bad?”

”Honestly, it's not very sweet, but I like this kind of flavor. Just the right balance of taste. You've outdone yourself Cassidy!”

”Really? You're not lying, right?”

”No! Really! It is really delicious. Come on, take a bite.”

And he fed me a slice.

What assaulted me was paradise. This is the best cake I have ever tasted! Not too sweet, too salty, too bitter. Just the right touch. Did I really make this? How did I do it?

”See? You are talented Cass. It just needs some enhancement, development and practice and you'd become a renowned pastry chef some day!”

”Well that is a stretch, but wow!”

***

We spent the rest of the night taste testing our cooked dishes. Sometimes bickering, a lot of making out, and then eating again.

I really, really want this feeling, this happiness.

I hope this lasts.
