25 FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH (1/2)
I racked my brain for a possible way out of this. Suddenly..
”Uhm, officer my fiancée here just came back from overseas. We're heading towards the bureau now to get his license. Here, take mine instead.” I rummaged my wallet to find my newly-acquired, unused driver's license. Good thing I learned driving and had this, even if I still don't have a car.
”Here you go officer. I'm sorry for breaking the rules. How should we settle this?”
The officer looked at my license. ”Hmmm, seeing that he just came back, I'll accept this. Sir, may I see your passport? For identity purposes only.”
Please, please, please let him have the passport, I silently prayed. I looked at Minho, and I saw him breaking a smile.
”Sure, officer. Wait a minute.” He opened the glove compartment box, and took out his passport. Oh thank God.
”Here you go officer,” handing it to the officer. The officer looked back and forth from the passport to Minho.
”Good. You'll only have to pay the fine for illegal parking. If this happens again, the fine will double. Third time, we'll take your license.”
”Yes officer.” Minho and I said in unison.
”You have to pay 4,000.” Wow! That's too... Just then, I saw Minho taking out his wallet and paid the officer. He wrote something, then returned our things.
”Sir, go directly to the bureau and get your license. That won't take too much time since I think you have your license from overseas. Just show it to them. Take care.” And then he went back to the police car and drove off.
”Whew. That was nerve-wracking.”
Minho started the engine. ”Thank you Cass. That was a close call.”
”I know. So we have our first priority. Get your license.”
”Eh?” He sounded annoyed.
”Yes we should. How are you going to drive next time? Now let's go. The bureau is just at the next intersection.”
Minho didn't answer but I saw his lips curled upwards. ”So, fiancée huh?”
I opened my eyes wide. ”No that was just a reason to the officer. Oh my. Why did I just choose that for a relationship status?”
