”I can't.” I shook my head before I sobbed my misery. ”I'm sorry. But I will not let any harm gets to you just because of me. He will kill you, Ivano! It's the only way our marriage will be nullified. And we all know how cruel my father is.”
”You don't love me enough to take the risk?” Ivano slowly asked with tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
”I can't take the risk if it's you that will be in harm's way, Ivano! I won't ever forgive myself!”
”I'd rather die married to you than let you be taken from me! It's still the same as death, Katherine.”
”Ivano, my love. Please, I never wish to argue with you when I planned this tryst. I want you to own me now.”
”I don't want to own only a part of you, Katherine. I want all of you just as much as I'm willing to give you all of me. I can't take your body only for today and missing it the rest of my life because you've given yourself to your husband!” Ivano's face suddenly went hard with determination and a little anger. ”It's now or never. Come and run with me tonight or we'll just break things off between us.”
”Ivano! I can't believe you're making me choose!” I covered my mouth to suppress my sob.
”And I can't believe you're actually having a hard time deciding, Katherine!”
I couldn't help it anymore. I released my tears from my eyes and cried into my hands. How would I ever decide between being away from my love so I could see him alive or be with him for a moment before he died. Because I knew my father wouldn't have a second thought of taking Ivano's life if I allowed him to take me away. I was already sold to the high priest. My father already had the money and certainly have been used to his gambling spree.
”I love you, Ivano. Of course, I will go with you.” It's the only way to get him to agree with me, I just hoped I wouldn't be caught with my lie.
Ivano, after studying my face, finally released a relieved sigh before he took me in his arms and kissed me on the mouth. I embraced him tight as if it'd be the last time I could hold him as we marveled each other's mouth.
