32 Mother’s Inheritance (1/2)
”Good morning everyone.” my father greeted. He took the seat at the head of the table and gestured me to sit beside him. I took the seat next to my father. When I looked again at the people now I remember their faces. These are the people that are on top of the businesses here in N city and also good friends of my mother. Just at my right side I can see an old familiar man with his wife. I would never forget this couple. These are my grandparents, my mother's parents. They are the ones that took me in when mother died and raised me.
I can feel their gazes at me. It's a mix of shock and affection. I want to go to them and hug them. But right now I am Queenie with amnesia. I hold back my feelings and tears.
To my left was Shawn and his father. As I know Shawn's father owns at least 10% of the shares in the company. He has retired and given his company to Shawn but he still earns money from the shares he own in these two companies. Shawn waves at me to say hi and smiles sweetly. I wave back and smiled.
”I have called this meeting for the sole purpose of my late wife Roselyn's shares on this company.” my father started. ”As you know it was my wife's last wish to give her shares to Jill when she turns 21 years old. But sadly the accident happened and she was presumed dead.”
All were silent. They listened intently to my father.
”But now for some miracle she has returned. I thanks God for this wonderful miracle.” my father said looking at me with fatherly affection and smiled. ”Now she has returned I want to give her Roselyn's 20% shares in the company.”
The people clapped their hands. I stand up and bowed my head. ”Thank you for accepting me here today. I will do my best to work hard for this company.” I said.
”She will be staring to work here as a director. I want her to learn from the business and handle it.” my father said.
”Now she has grown up she looks more like Roselyn.” an old man at the back said. If I remember correctly he is also a business tycoon and a good friend of grandfather Mr. Greg Robinson. ”You are still single right? Why don't you get to know my grandson here, Steven. I am sure you will get along well. Maybe I can get to have you as a granddaughter-in-law. I really liked your mother to be my daughter-in-law in the past. If not for your father who is great at wooing a girl that my son, Steven's father didn't win Roselyn's heart.” he laughed out loud.
”Grandfather don't start talking nonsense.” Steven said shyly. ”Ms. Queeine is dating Shawn now as the news said last time, right?” he looks at Shawn who is glaring at him.
”Hmph, if I known better back then, I should have matched Roselyn to your son Greg.” I hear my grandfather say.
I look at my grandparents. My grandfather is clearly irritated and my grandmother is whispering to him to calm down. I look at my father and see him wearing a sad and guilty look.
”Roger stop this. You can see that Jill is looking at us.” my grandmother said. She looks at me gently and I look at them confused. ”Let us introduce ourselves. We are your grandparents.”
”My grandparents?” I asked my father.
”Yes. They are your mother's parents.” my father said.
”Can you give this old man a hug?” my grandfather looks at me gently.
”Of course.” I said with a smile. I walked to them and gave them a big hug. I can hear them crying.
”Oh baby girl. We are so happy to know you're alive.” my grandmother said.
”Thank you.” I too shed some tears.
”Well enough of that we are still in the meeting.” my grandfather said while he was wiping his tears away and smiled at me. I take my seat again.
”So Julian now that Queenie has Roselyn's 20% of the company's shares she is now one of the major stock holder.” my grandfather said.
As I know my father holds 40% of the shares making him the owner and the top major stock holder. In the past it was my mother that owned the company and the 40% of the shares. But when she died it was stated in her last will that 20% will go to my father and 20% will go to me.
”I am holding 20% of my shares here also. But I am old and want to take it easy. I have amassed quite a fortune and it won't go dry until the day I die.” my grandfather said. ”I want to give my 20% of the shares to my granddaughter here now.”
I hear gasping from the people. I was also shocked with this turn of events. If I get the 20% of my grandfather's shares then I am now equal to my father here in the company.
”Do you have any objections Julian?” my grandfather gives a serious look towards my father.
