Chapter 399 - Taking Out the Blood-clothed Tower Once and For All (1/2)

The Dragon looked at Lu Xuan with a tinge of yearning in his eyes. The Tree of Enlightenment was so valuable and mystical that it could be said that whoever had possession of the tree would be forever wealthy.

Not only was the tree capable of benefiting the demons by opening up their intellectual capacity, but it could also similarly benefit normal humans by turning common people into geniuses.

That point alone would have had made the fruits something very sought-after by rich people, with a single fruit being able to fetch astronomical prices.

As such, the purpose that the Tree of Enlightenment that would serve an organization like the Special Task Force would be made even more apparent. There was no doubt that it would become a treasure like no other.

With that said, it was no surprise why the demons would be willing to field such a lineup just to take the tree.

The Dragon shuddered somewhat at that thought, thinking about what would have happened if Lu Xuan had not intercepted the demons.

That tree alone would have given birth to several geniuses among the demons of future generations. There was no doubt that by then, the demons would come to pose a serious threat to humans.

“No, the Tree of Enlightenment is not for sale,” Lu Xuan immediately refused.

Although the Dragon was mentally prepared to face such a rejection, he was still somewhat disappointed upon actually hearing Lu Xuan’s rejection.

“Even so, there’s still room for discussion with regards to the fruits.” Lu Xuan said with a grin.

“I would sell a portion of the fruits once in a while. You’ll be welcomed to purchase them by then if you’re interested, Chief Dragon.”

The Dragon nodded after hearing that. While that was not what he truly wanted to hear, that was still better than the worst-case scenario.

Being able to get some of the fruits from such a tree would still be better than getting nothing at all.

Lu Xuan paused for a bit and said, “By the way, there’s something that I’d like you to help out with, Chief Dragon.”

“Please speak, Mr. Lu. If it’s something within our capacity to fulfill, we are willing to do anything,” the Dragon answered as he clapped his chest.

Lu Xuan elaborated in a magnanimous, overbearing manner, “I take it that you people know about the assassination attempt against me back at the Blood-Clothed Tower. While the Heavenly Palace under my command has served me well, our intelligence network still pales in comparison to that of the Special Task Force. As such, I’d like your men to help gather as much information about the Blood-clothed Tower as possible. I wish to raze the place once and for all.”

He was not someone who was just going to sit on his hands when being assaulted, and he certainly was not the kind who would stay quiet when someone got on his bad side.

Regardless of whoever was behind the assassination attempt and who gave the order, there was no doubt that the attempt had gotten on his nerves.

“I can’t believe that there was someone who still dares to take up a job of taking me out during this time and day. Do I look like I’m someone whom they could push around? Are they so sure that they could do that?” Lu Xuan snorted coldly. Lu Xuan did not fear anyone from the Blood-clothed Tower whatsoever.

A group of assassins lurking in the dark would no doubt pose a serious threat to some people, but they were nothing to him.

The field that his mental powers were able to cover was such that even if there were to be assassins who were lurking around, there would still be no way to avoid being detected.

One could take up a career as thieves but not keep a lookout for thieves for years on end. While he was not afraid of any of those people himself, there was no telling if they would act against his family members instead.

Things would have taken for the worse and that was something that Lu Xuan deemed utterly unacceptable. He was not about to let something like that happen, no matter how incredibly unlikely it was for such a thing to happen in the first place.

The Dragon watched how Lu Xuan’s expression turn cold and unfeeling. It was not something that he often saw on Lu Xuan’s face. Even when Lu Xuan was facing off against all manner of powerful enemies, he would more often than not wear a calm and collected expression instead. Situations that led him to wear such a cold face were as rare as they came.
