Chapter 246 - The Dark Bible and Satan (2/2)
However, the damage taken during that war all those years ago was severe enough that the book suffered a huge drop in terms of power.
But then again, it was still capable of enabling the Count to fight Lu Xuan head-on, and one could tell just how fearsome the book was from that fact alone.
There was a mysterious barrier on the Dark Bible, but Lu Xuan was able to break through it without breaking a sweat.
The Dark Bible was not all that different from the Light Bible in that both books propagated genesis, but the dark book sang praises instead to the legendary lord of hell—Satan.
Satan was a being who stood at the pinnacle of dark Western myths. In the eyes of many, Satan was someone who stood toe-to-toe to God.
Other than the contents of religious nature, there was also only one spell inscribed in the Dark Bible—the method to summon Satan.
The blob of that dark shadow that the Count summoned back then was none other than a projection of Satan himself.
It was said that the Satan that was summoned varied from one form to another depending on the powers of the ones who wield the book.
Supposedly, whoever had ample powers and held the complete, undamaged Dark Bible would be able to summon the legendary Satan himself to their plane of existence.
The Covenant of Darkness had only been able to fight the church to a tie due to having summoned Satan. While the church was severely crippled, they were by no means eradicated.
The Dark Bible was also severely damaged in that battle.
But then again, all of those were hearsay and legends. In the hands of the Count, the book was hardly able to summon more than a projection with a fraction of the dark lord’s powers.
The Count was far from being at the peak of his powers as well. That, coupled with the fact that the Dark Bible was so banged up that it was only a shadow of its former form, meant that what was summoned was little more than a blob of a dark shadow.
The Dark Bible itself was also a very, very powerful power item. The book was capable of amplifying the power of any spell of dark nature by more than 30 percent, even doubling the power of said spells if the Dark Bible was in its complete form.
That meant that the fighter wielding the complete book could have their powers doubled, which would play a determining role in a fight between two fighters of the same level.
Unless the wielder ran into some monster, like Lu Xuan, everyone else would have been made short work of before the might of the Dark Bible.
That was also the fundamental reason enabling the Count to dare to come to Huaxia alone. The Count never thought there was someone out there capable of besting him with the book.
In truth, the Count was indeed so powerful that not even the common fighters of the Celestial Realm would be able to best him, and more so when he had the Dark Bible in hand. Unless the Huaxian government was willing to take him out using nuclear weapons, there was virtually nothing that could pose a threat to his life.
Yet, he ran into the likes of Lu Xuan, who was literally a walking cheat code of sorts, all the same.
None of that meant much to Lu Xuan. He was indeed capable of creating methods of cultivating dark powers, as well as techniques and spells for harnessing the power of such dark powers if he so fancied.
However, there was simply no need for him to do so, which was why he deemed the Dark Bible to be of little meaning to him.
But then again, if he were to have any intention of selling the book, it would have sent the entire world into a frenzy—even the church—which had been the age-old archnemesis of the Covenant of Darkness. They would have offered to buy the book at an astronomical price.
That was because it was said that the Dark Bible harbored the fundamental secrets to the origins of creatures of darkness, and there were many who wanted to look into those secrets.
No matter. I’ll just keep it locked up for now. While the Dark Bible is of little use to me, it will do some good when the time comes, Lu Xuan thought to himself as he narrowed his gaze.
There was someone knocking outside the door. It was Shi Danze, who came to inform Lu Xuan that Ming Yueyao—the vice chief of the Special Task Force—had come to notify him that the Special Task Force had granted him full access to their vaults. This permitted him to pick whatever he fancied in there.
Lu Xuan went out on a trip to the capital with Ming Yueyao right away.
