Chapter 56 (1/2)

Lu Xuan knew almost immediately that it was the feat of awakened mental powers from one of the Awakened.

Being able to affect him even for a mere moment meant that the one who was there was a formidable one as well. Such a figure would be at least level six, which, in turn, meant that it was yet another martial arts legend.

Anyone who was lower than level six would not have even gotten the chance to affect him at all, to begin with.

A pair of eyes seemed startled somewhere in the dark. Despite being the one with the element of surprise, that figure had only been able to momentarily affect the target’s senses.

It was something that the assailant had not encountered since he had awakened such supernatural abilities.

He was formidable enough to hypnotize even the likes of level five Baodan Grandmasters with just a single look. Not even level six martial arts legends would have been able to shrug off his illusions without breaking a sweat.

He was, too, a level sixer, after all, and his massive Mental Strength had always been his greatest weapon.

However, the assailant quickly realized that Lu Xuan was now turning his gaze in his direction. The assailant was instantly frightened, as that spoke of one terrifying truth—Lu Xuan was able to detect his presence.

It was a level of Mental Strength and perception like none other.

Knowing that his cover was blown entirely, he opted to just show himself right away.

The middle-aged man was dressed in traditional Chinese garb. He had an unassuming expression on his face. One would have taken him for an ordinary man based on his appearance alone.

However, in Lu Xuan’s senses, that man’s Mental Strength stood out like a lantern in the dark.

He was several times more powerful than Luo Yongnian, who was of the same level. That man was extremely frightening.

Luo Yongnian was a warrior while that middle-aged man was but an Awakened who had awakened a level of mental powers. Both figures evolved in different directions, and the difference was quite normal.

But then again, be it a warrior who specialized in honing his physical feats, or an Awakened who had awakened his mental powers, there was no doubt that both men were some of the most terrifying people in the world at the moment.

To common folks, those two were like gods among men.

Lu Xuan, however, remained completely unfazed despite facing two level six martial arts legends at the moment.

“I didn’t expect you to go that far just to kill me. You both are considered the best of the best, for the time being.” Lu Xuan smirked in amusement as he spoke.

“Although we have no idea who your teachers are, you will certainly die from getting on the Luo Clan’s bad side.”

Luo Yongnian looked at Lu Xuan and spoke every single word with confident might.

“I’ve looked into your info and thought you were only a common man. It certainly surprises me that you’re actually a hidden dragon. But no matter, for I’ll be slaying a dragon today.”

“Hahahahaha… Slaying dragons, eh? Luo Yongnian, I’m afraid you’ve overestimated your abilities. What makes you think that you’ll be able to kill me?” Lu Xuan laughed as he touched his forehead with his hand.

“Is that so? You think you can look down on everyone because you’re good? To me, it seems like you know nothing of the saying, ‘tall trees in the woods are sure to get their tops blown off.’ You’re still too young, indeed,” Luo Yongnian said plainly.

“That depends on how capable the winds are, I guess. A breeze that comes with a drizzle will do little more than provide nourishment, not breaking said trees instead,” Lu Xuan replied in an unfazed manner.

Tall trees in the woods were sure to get their tops blown off. However, if said trees were strong enough, the winds would have no effect on them. Instead, any storm would only end up making said trees stronger.

That was how it was with him back in his past life. No storm had proven strong enough to break a tree like him, and all such adversities had only propelled him to the clouds.

Both men seemed to have been doing nothing much but talking, yet the words at play were statements of their martial resolve. Given how both men were resolute, a competition of wills at such levels was unable to bend either of them.
