29 The Deb (1/2)
”Xiu Ling, do you still remember the promise you owed me when you were pregnant?” The question from her husband's lips reverberated multiple times in Xiu Ling's brain.
Her mind went straight to the horrible memory and her back stiffened. The book she was reading fell from her frozen fingers and landed weakly on the plush bed. Her lips moved up and down like she was trying to say something but no voice seemed to form in her throat.
Her face was one of a trauma victim visiting the crime scene, cast in apprehension and dread.
Lin Kang probably missed the expression on her face or he simply chose to ignore it altogether. The man climbed onto the bed and pounced at his wife without warning. A gravelly growl could be heard saying, ”Now that the baby is out, you have no excuse anymore. It is time for some fun.”
Xiu Ling shrunk instinctively back from Lin Kang's aggression, like a helpless rabbit, she cowered in fear as the lion moved in on her.
She should have known better than to react in this way because it only worked to spur Lin Kang on but this had not happened for so long that in that moment, the lessons and tricks she had learned from being the man's bedroom partner did not even enter her mind.
In a way, it was not unlike their first time, the incident that led to this whole shebang. Similar to then, Xiu Ling's ”performance” did wonders for the man's libido. ”Xiu Ling, you have no idea how much I have missed this. I have gone through so many replacements but you are truly irreplaceable! No one does it quite like you,” Lin Kang offered the ”compliment” as he slathered big, wet kisses on the woman's bare skin.
However, his words had fallen on deaf ears because Xiu Ling was in too much of a traumatic shock to really comprehend what was happening. Her senses could pick up the touch of cold air from the air conditioning on her skin as Lin Kang shredded her clothes but the information failed to register in her brain like the synapses in her brain simply could not process it.
Lin Kang's kisses left a trail of blazes on her skin but at the time, they sent icy chills down to her heart.
When the man yanked off her pants, Xiu Ling's hand reached involuntarily for the book that was left on the bed and without realizing what she was doing, she swiped it at the man's head.
That stopped the man right in his tracks. Lin Kang looked at her in a daze. This reaction of hers was so unexpected that he too had difficulty to process it. His hand moved to touch the spot slightly beneath the left temple that Xiu Ling had struck as if to confirm that such a thing had truly happened and he did not just imagine it in his mind.
Xiu Ling's heart dropped assuming the man would turn violent, which was not that much worse considering the situation. 'How much worse can it get?' was the question that popped up in her mind.
