34 Turned over (2/2)

”Did I raise her this badly?” He added on, even though he was hardly ever the one to take care of her. It was mostly Auntie Tiana's fault for having spoiled her so badly and let her do whatever she wanted and even supported her when it was obvious what she wanted to do was wrong.

”Would you... like to see your daughter?” The policeman asked. ”Yes, definitely! She needs a good scolding for what she has done. How could she do something so, so terrible?” Uncle Johnson scoffed. The policeman nodded and left the room for a bit before returning with Min shamefully following behind him. ”Take a seat,” he said, pointing to the chair. ”I'll give you guys some privacy,” he said before taking his leave.

Min took her time to sit down and hung her head low without saying anything. She tried to prepare herself for their scolding, but she waited for quite some time and they didn't say anything. Instead, she heard silent sniffs after some time. Her head shot up and her expression turned guilty when she saw her dad shedding tears.

”Min... who are you? You've changed so drastically since you were a little girl. When you a little girl, you once said you wished that you could wipe out all the bad people in the world so we could all be happy, do you know that?” He said between sniffs.

Seeing and hearing her dad cry, she couldn't hold back the tears either. She nodded and replied, ”I know... I remember. Mum, dad... I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. I didn't know it was so serious, I thought it was still part of her and I being ”enemies”... I kept on thinking that if she was in my spot she would do the same to get the guy she liked to turn his attention to her and stay together, but only now do I realise how wrong I was. She's the complete opposite. She... would never do something like that. She would despise someone for doing something like that instead. I've never felt so sorry for myself before... I understand what I've done wrong, and I'm willing to pay the price for what I've done,” Min said, her eyes were full of sincerity as she looked her parents.

Uncle Johnson's tears begun to stop. The girl he saw before Min, was completely different from the Min he locked up the night before, or the Min he scolded before that. She had turned over a new leaf, and she was reborn.

”Min... You don't know how happy I am to hear those words come out of your mouth... Don't worry, you... you've known what you done wrong, so I'll try my very best to pay off your punishment. I can't stand seeing you in jail either,” he said. He was blaming Auntie Tiana for spoiling Min before, but... wasn't he doing something similar right then?

Min nodded. She hadn't thought about how life in jail would be like, and when she did, she shuddered.

Their conversation ended and they called the policeman back in.

”Alright, so I'm going to tell you the punishment for abduction and attempt of blackmailing. It's either death penalty or 10 years in prison plus canning. Which do you choose? You may take your time to discuss this since it is very serious punishment,” the policeman said.

Hearing this, all their jaws dropped. ”D-D-Death penalty....?! TEN YEARS in PRISON with CANNING?!” Min exclaimed in her choked up voice. ”Yes, I'm afraid...” The policeman felt a little sorry as he said that. ”You know what, dad? Maybe the death penalty will be much more fun and less painful compared to TEN YEARS in PRISON. I should end my life before it turns miserable,” Min said, her eyes turned completely blank as she said that.

”HAH? What are you saying? Are you hearing yourself? If you die now, I'll be devastated. I pick option 3, getting a lawyer and trying to pay off the punishment. We'll see the other party in court instead,” Uncle Johnson said. The policeman nodded, ”Alright, I'll inform the other party and the other policemen. Anything to ask?” They all shook their heads and Min's parents were escorted out of the police station while Min had to stay there until court day.
