42 Chapter 42 : Raid Part 3 (1/2)

Rei and Kenji inched their way across the village, stopping at vantage points while Kenji scoped out parts of the village. Through walls, through the ground, anyone they could find. There was no one. The Leaf was reduced to a ghost town.

Kenji sighed. ”Where is everybody?”

Rei wondered as well. ”Hey! I remember my dad saying there was a bunker below the monument.”

”A bunker?”

”Yeah. He said it was built for natural disasters. Stuff like that. I don't think it was ever finished though.” She cupped her chin. ”Or maybe it was being expanded?”

”See if you can see through the bottom of the mountain.”

Kenji squinted through the rock. He could feel the strain rising through his veins. He hadn't deactivated his eyes since he got here. Thankfully he could counter the chakra consumption. A little trick he picked up from Itachi. He never shut his off. Ever.

Kenji rubbed his eyes and refocused, Rei noticed the exhaustion through his body language. She wanted to say something. ”Ken-”

”I found it! I can't see through the walls though. There's some weird chakra running through the walls blocking my vision.” he turned to Rei. She was staring at his face with worry.

”What?” Kenji was on the verge of frustration. There was no time to be staring off into space.

”How often have you used your eyes?” Rei spoke quickly, simultaneously caressing Kenji's cheek. Pain shot through his face, pulling himself away. His face turned slightly red.

”That hurt! What..what are you doing?”

Rei realized what she did, turning her own face into a beat. ”Um....your left cheek. The veins are purple.”

Kenji touched his face. The mile long vision in his left eye was definitely blurry. It seems he busted the veins in his eye. Most likely from over use.

”The results of nonstop training I guess. That doesn't mean I can stop though. Lets go.”

Rei was not happy, but she followed anyway.

At the West Gate...

”Lord Hokage?!” Asuma ran towards Minato but stopped when he saw that man.

”Asuma!” Minato grabbed his attention, but it didn't break his gaze.

”I'll explain later, but Itachi is on our side.”

”How?!?! He massacred his entire-”

”Enough!!! You believe in me, so believe in him.”

”Yes sir.” Asuma lowered his head. He completely disrespected his leader. ”Asuma, Where is Kenji?” Itachi lowered Minato to the ground.

”.....”

”Asuma.”

”He went to look for more survivors a few minutes ago. I told him I would be on his tail if he didn't return in thirty. He and Rei flew off.”

Minato straightened up. ”Is Rei ok?”

”Yes. She's fine. But I'm worried something is up. We only evacuated less than half of the population. And I haven't seen anyone else. Have you?”

”Now that you mention it. No.” Itachi turned to the destruction.

Minato lit up. ”Wait!!! Don't tell me.” He turned to Itachi. ”We have to hurry. RIGHT NOW!”

----------------

”Stay sharp.”

Rei nodded.

Kenji opened a heavy, metal door. It creaked open. The room was gigantic. Probably half the mountain was hiding a secret room in its core. Several lights flickered on, almost blinding the two ninja. When the vision adjusted, Kenji saw thousands of people, sitting down without a care in the world. Staring blankly in front of them. Among the people, he spotted the other part of his family. Aya, Kakashi, and Sasuke sat beside each other. No reaction whatsoever to his entrance.

”What is this?” Rei whispered.
