37 Chapter 37 : Its Hot Outside (2/2)
”Wait! Rei!!”
Before Kakashi could chase her, something else came to his attention.

Rei pushed through the flames. Her red eyebrows were now nonexistent. The heat killed her face. She wheezed and coughed up her lungs while she located the right home through the smoke. She kicked down the door and was met with roaring flames. She couldn't get inside.
”HELLO!!! IS ANYONE THERE!!!” She yelled with all she could. Her voice also suffered from the constant smoky strain.
”I'M UP HERE!! HELP! PLEASE!” A distressed voice of a child caught her ear. She had to find a way. Anything to get to the girl. Rei climbed the wall, towards the sound of the voice. A small window stood between the little girl and her rescuer. Rei broke through the glass with a kunai and peered through.
”I'm RIGHT HERE!” The girl was pinned to the ground by a fallen rafter. The boards were burning closer and closer to her body.
”HANG ON!!” Rei acted out of habit. Her chains shot from the waist, into the window. She couldn't fit herself through the tiny space. This was the next best thing. Her red chains cut through the boards, releasing the child.
”Come on! This way! I'll pull you through the window! HURRY!” Rei held her arms through the tiny space.
The kid struggled. Her feet were badly burned, but she made it. Rei secured her in her hands, just in time. But before Rei could smuggle the kid through the window, the building came crashing down. Taking Rei and the child down with it.

”Everyone! Be quiet!” Kakashi fiercely ordered the villagers to a silence. But he felt something off the charts. He didn't have time to be nice.
”Who's there!” Kakashi stood tall, even with the little chakra he had. Something wasn't right. Surrounded by tons of people, he searched over and over. Back and forth. A chill ran through his spine. He rushed forward, turning behind him, but not before a kunai lodged itself deep into his shoulder. If he didn't sense that even a little, he'd be dead.
Kakashi picked up a deathly female whisper. ”Just as expected. Copy Ninja.”
Never mind that, he didn't feel anything at all now. Just faint surges of killing intent, spreading through the entire crowd. Everyone noticed Kakashi's struggle and panicked. The mayor quickly moved everyone into a circle, a little distance from Kakashi while he stood behind him.
”What's happening?” The mayor asked.
”That's what I'd like to know.” The mayor cringed as Kakashi removed the knife from his shoulder.
Both stood around. Kakashi glared at the crowd. Whoever was tormenting him, was using the innocent as his hiding place.
The mayor whispered, ”Here, I'm no ninja, but I grew up in the Hidden Cloud. I at least have this much knowledge.”
Kakashi felt lighter. The Mayor was giving him chakra. ”Thanks old man.” Kakashi revealed his sharingan. This fight was just beginning.

Note: This was fun. I just decided to hop right into it. This will be handled way better than Sasuke's trip. lol. I think that was a descent chapter to return to. I planned everything out now so yay me. I wanted some tension and a little action, some of you might be surprised at how quickly Rei progressed in the next chapter. She's a badass, just saying. She'll get some development later and Kakashi too. And that development will be perfect to handle a certain brooding MC named *cough* Kenji. I hope you are yearning to read more now. hehe.
