61 A Beautiful Deception (1/2)
”Defend at all costs! Keep them at bay until morning!” Luna commanded all the troops stationed on top of the southeastern walls. Thanks to all the Mages, they at least were able to fend off these winged monsters. The main thing about these Manananggals was their long tongue and incredibly strong wings. Even stronger than what the legends described them. They would blow strong gusts of wind with their wings, and the moment someone was caught off-balance they would strike with their long tongues that they primarily used for sucking the blood out of their victims.
Thankfully, every Mage was usually paired up with a VIT-based soldier. It was thanks to this that the Manananggals were not able to find an opening. But the soldiers were worried. Once they were injured, these winged monsters would just back off and regenerate quickly while more would come forward.
Luna was on top of Angry Bakunawa as he decimated these monsters. He would burn them until they were nothing but ash, right after he'd cleave them in one swing, but he didn't get any EXP.
”Luna, I'm not getting any EXP, they're not truly dying, it seems.” Sura noticed this fact as well, so she was wondering why he was still trying to kill so many when the soldiers were more than enough to fend them off.
”Don't worry, it's all part of the plan.” He simply replied. Sura nodded, knowing that Luna would never do things for no reason. That statement alone was enough to
Even Elder Aran was quite confused. As a Mage, he was decimating these monsters even more efficiently than Luna. He also noticed that he wasn't receiving any EXP, but he still follow Luna's command and killed as many as he could.
”What could Lord Luna be thinking?” He asked.
Mabini, Hana, and Apple were stumped as well. But the three of them had the same attitude as Sura.
”Luna-sama would not do such things if it was meaningless.” Hana said, as she continued to stab out towards the ones that got too close.
The battle continued until it was almost daytime. The Manananggals, sensing this, all swiftly retreated. All the troops finally heaved a sigh of relief, looking forward to being able to sleep. Despite their high levels, even the VIT-based soldiers were feeling tired. The stronger you got, the more energy you'd consume.
Even someone who invested in pure VIT, if he kept fighting at full strength the whole time would feel exhausted. Not to mention being buffeted by the strong winds caused by the Manananggal's wings. Not to mention that those things were much stronger than the current ETZs and EHZs yet they got no EXP from them, which made it even more depressing.
Just as they were preparing to rest.
”EVERYONE, MOVE OUT! To hell with formations, make haste to the Lazi Municipality!” Luna suddenly barked out his orders.
”What?” That was the question almost everybody instinctively asked in their heads. Regardless of their confusion, they obeyed right away. This was a sign of how much respect they held towards Luna. With that said, everybody besides the injured ones, moved out.
Siquijor wasn't a big island when compared to the Negros, Cebu, or Bohol islands, but it wasn't tiny either. It took them nearly an hour to get to their destination.
The Lazi Municipality was located on the southeastern end of Siquijor. Luckily the troops were used to this. The soldiers stationed on the southeastern walls would go out to this island to train all the time.
Right as they got near.
”Surround the whole municipality.” Luna gave his next command. Everyone was about to start spreading out, when they heard someone call out.
”Look! A survivor!” One of the soldiers said. It was a woman who had beautiful features. She looked like she could be one of those cute Asian girls that you'd see in stock photos.
She was tall, slim, and lithe. Her appearance was even made more enticing due to her shirt being wet. This made the male soldiers absolutely enamored towards her. She looked absolutely out of place in this new world.
Why would a woman this beautiful be out here?
”Miss, are you a survivor? Where did you come from?” One of the squad captains asked.
”I... I just came from Cambugahay falls.” Her soft, soothing voice could melt one's heart. Cambugahay falls was an absolutely beautiful sigh to see. It was also a popular spot where people would take baths in it's crystal clear waters. Prior to the new world, it was one of the top tourist spots in the Philippines, and it was beautifully maintained.
”We're from the Sovereign Nation, you should come with us! It's the safest place to be. We'll take care of you there.” The squad captain promised. Just as he was trying to convince the woman to go with them, Luna suddenly walked towards her.
Luna held her face and looked at her in the eyes.
