34 Day 33: The Scum Is Followed (1/2)

Even though Chen Sheng is a scum, but he's a scum that avoids limelight. Why?

First, because all eyes will be on you and they'll all watch your every move. Second, because of the first. Your actions will be restricted.

And now he made this blunder. He looked at Lei Ling.

That time when Lei Ling fought with the demonic beast to save his fellow disciple, despite his level at that time is low, Chen Sheng saw this.

Seeing Fei Yin, Li Tian and Feng Mo are busy fighting saving other disciples, too, and since he, like always, has nothing to do, helped Lei Ling. Even though his level is low, he still could use talismans. And so he cut his way towards Lei Ling using the talismans on his hand.

”Hey!” he called and pulled the disciple away to a safe area when he reached Lei Ling. ”You alright?” he asked as he put the disciple down and walked towards Lei Ling.

Lei Ling's eyes went wide when he saw Chen Sheng. ”S... B... ” he said, supposed to say 'senior brother' but the words got stuck on his throat because of fear from the demonic beast's aura. ”Away!” he told him as he flung his sword towards the demonic beast in front of him to keep it away from them.

Yes. 'flung'. Chen Sheng watched Lei Ling, who's pale-faced and his knees are shaking.

Aia. He thought and patted Lei Ling's shoulder. He's more pathetic than me. He thought and fished out a talisman from his pocket. ”You bring that brother with you back to Brother Fei, Brother Li and Brother Feng – ” he told him as he lit the talisman and ran towards the demonic beast who's waiting for them and watching them as if waiting for them to offer themselves up to it.

It wishes. Chen Sheng thought as he threw a talisman to the demonic beast's face. The talisman's fire turned blue, then it died.

”It's no use!” Lei Ling called, crying, as he knelt on the ground. The unconscious disciple is lying on the ground, bathing in blood. ”We're going to die!” he cried and sobbed.

Chen Sheng blew out air. Pathetic. He thought as he looked at the talisman on the demonic beast's forehead.

”Rrr?” the demonic beast said when it saw the talisman was stuck on its forehead. ”Rrr...” it said as it raised its claw to pull the talisman. But, the talisman that's supposed to be torn just stretched. ”Rrr?” the demonic beast growled, now puzzled when it pulled the talisman again but it remained stuck on its forehead like a chewing gum.

Right. It's a talisman Chen Sheng modified. He looked at the couple of talismans on his hand, his handwriting on it.

To create a talisman, one should have enough power and knowledge to make it. Even though Chen Sheng has a low aptitude for cultivation, but he has enough power to create a talisman. Added with his knowledge, he really created a talisman.

He calls it 'Evil Confusing' Talisman. It is a talisman made to be stuck with evil and make the malevolent energy on the evil go into disarray.

Like a confirmation, the demonic beast growled like tis crying and started to shake its head violently.

”W – what's happening?” Lei Ling asked, confused, as he stared at the crying demonic beast, wide-eyed. He looked at Chen Sheng when Chen Sheng lit the talismans on his hand.

The talismans' fire is orange, like their sect's color.

”Close your eyes – ” Chen Sheng told Lei Ling as he ran again and stopped on the wriggling demonic beast's back.

Chen Sheng balled his fist and raised two fingers. He raised his other hand that's holding the lit talismans. He then closed his eyes. ”One's form is made, but this'll maketh go in disarray.” He muttered. ”With Light in my hands, which Darkness ceased to understand, this One hands Good to the Evil – ” he said and opened his eyes just as his hand threw the talisman to the demonic beast.

The five talismans flew to the demonic beast's head, chest, and back. The demonic beast cried and Chen Sheng covered his eyes just as the flames on the talismans crawled all over the demonic beast's body and burned its body.

In the corner of Chen Sheng's eyes, he saw figures flew over the boulders. It was Fei Yin, Li Tian and Feng Mo. They must have been finished on their task.

Chen Sheng glanced at Lei Ling who's wide-eyed as he stared at the burning body of the demonic beast. The demonic beast gave out one last cry and turned to ashes.

After that, instead of Lei Ling become traumatized, he actually followed Chen Sheng like Chen Sheng's shadow.

I really didn't expect this pathetic disciple will have a fast mental recovery. Chen Sheng thought and looked at Lei Ling who's smiling at him. If he just doesn't know this disciple is a former pathetic disciple, he's thought this disciple is an opportunist.

He really knows to whom he should seek help. He thought, referring to Lei Ling asking for him to teach him.

”Shifu is there. Why should you ask me to teach you?” Chen Sheng asked and continued walking.

”But Shifu has his hands full.” Lei Ling answered. ”And... I'd like to improve fast.” He added.

Chen Sheng stopped and looked at him. ”You know full well that my level is lower than yours – ” he said..

He cut him off. ”But Senior Brother Chen's knowledge and skills far surpasses anyone here.” Lei Ling said. ”If only you'd show your knowledge and skill, our brothers will definitely respect you – mmph!” he said when Chen Sheng stuffed his mouth with a meat bun. His eyes went wide. He looked at him, then to the meat bun on his mouth. He grabbed it and bit it, then gulped. ”Is this meat bun filled with magic herbs that'll increase your cultivation level?” he asked as he stared at the meat bun like it's a treasure.

Chen Sheng bit the meat bun on his hand. ”If that's so, then the meat bun vendor will be the richest man for selling his ordinarily-made but delicious meat bun.” He told him and continued to walk. ”Don't speak to me again.” he told him, then left.

After that, he'll act dumb and not recognize Lei Ling, despite the other's efforts. As Chen Sheng expected, Lei Ling stopped following him, but still remained calling him 'Senior Brother'.

Chen Sheng just sighed for that and let him be.

After a few days of the incident, the Newfound Land remained peaceful again. Sightings of demonic beasts in the remote Newfound Land became ordinary ever since two years ago which is the arrival of the sect.

The residents finally accepted the sect in return of the sect protecting them. That's why, despite the sect just new and small, nobody in the Newfound Land has been harmed by the demonic beast. With this record of the sect, the citizens of the Newfound Land finally eased up with the sect and sent their children to be disciples of the sect.

Together with the Feng family backing the sect since their sole young master is a disciple of the sect, the citizens warmed up more with the sect.

”Haaa...” Chen Sheng sighed as he threw himself down his bed. ”Peaceful... nice... but – ” he said, his smile turned to frown. ” – when can I leave this world?” he asked, his forehead knotted. ”True, this may be interesting, but that was I thought 2 years ago. Now this world became boring again.” he muttered and sighed. ”If I still can't leave, then could something spice this life - ?” he asked.

Just as his words died down, his dimensional pocket moved and something flew out. It was a shabby cloth and it looked old.

Chen Sheng's forehead knotted and he sat up to stare at the floating cloth in front of him. ”... you could fly?” he asked, then stopped. He realized his question is dumb, and he himself is dumb.

How can he ask an object? Of course it won't answer! He frowned at his own thoughts and looked at the old blanket.

”Hey. I bought you despite not knowing what are you.” He told it and raised his dimensional pocket, then shook it. ”So if you have any 'thoughts' of escaping, then better double think of it since I could, you know, still locate you.” He said and smiled as he raised a talisman, written 'Evil Energy'.

It's a talisman he made that would light up if it senses or found a trace of malevolent energy around. Chen Sheng based it on the Evil Accumulating Orb the sect owns. With this, he doesn't need the Evil Accumulating Orb.

As if a confirmation, the talisman flared up on Chen Sheng's hand. But, he doesn't feel his hand burning. Instead, he waited for it to burn out.

He looked at the floating old blanket. ”Escape?” he asked and grinned.

The blanket twitched but didn't dare to make any move. He chuckled and pulled the blanket.

Well, it's not like he wants the blanket. He just took it from the drunken traveler on a whim. His collection of 'unique' objects, he's getting bored of it and so he found something new.

And this flying blanket is just the unfortunate one. Chen Sheng never expected anything out of the blanket, though, so it surprised him when it flew.

Could this be the legendary flying carpet of Aladdin? Chen Sheng thought. Aia. No. It was a carpet, not blanket. He thought and looked at the blanket he's pulling on its corner, fiddling its corner with his finger.

”Oh, right.” He said when he remembered something. ”What's with that malevolent energy I saw?” he asked, remembered the malevolent energy the blanket is emitting.

But, as usual, Chen Sheng looked and felt like stupid since, of course, the blanket can't answer. He sighed.

He turned when he heard the thunder. He looked outside the window and saw the clouds turn gray to dark. The rain come pouring down not a second after.

”Come here.” Chen Sheng called to the blanket and pulled it by its corner his fingers are holding it to. ”Time for make use of you.” He said and covered himself with the blanket which reached only half his body. His eyebrows raised when the blanket became wider until it reached his feet. ”Oh? You're really something. Glad I bought you.” he said and smiled as he laid down the bed and pulled the blanket over his neck, warming himself from the cold weather outside.

A rain drop flew inside his room through his open window and the cold droplet touched the old blanket, faint black air come out of the old blanket where the cold droplet of water touched it.

Morning.

”Brother Chen? Brother Chen?” Li Tian's voice called. As always, this guy is his alarm clock.

Chen Sheng slowly opened his eyes blinked, adjusting his eyes to the surroundings. ”Hmm?” he said and finally opened his eyes, which widened after he saw the wet floor and walls of his room.

But, what made his eyes widened in shock is because of the blanket that's covering him. The side of the blanket that lay down the floor is emitting black air as the rain from his window hit it.

”Sh – ” he cursed, but stopped himself in time when he remembered Li Tian is outside his room.

”Brother Chen?” Li Tian called and knocked.

Chen Sheng immediately sat up but didn't answer. He pulled the blanket towards him and looked at the malevolent energy it emits. ”Damn it... just what did I found this time...?” he muttered under his breath as he took out an Evil Energy Talisman he made.

The talisman lit up just as the malevolent energy touched it. The malevolent energy was sucked by the talisman and was burned. Chen Sheng used six talismans until the malevolent energy the blanket emit was gone. The blanket is now again dry.

He cleared his throat before he answered to Li Tian. ”I'm awake now.” he said. ”Sorry, but I'll follow you after I fixed my room. I left my window open last night...” he explained.

”Oh. Do you need help - ?” Li Tian asked.

He immediately answered. ”No, I'm fine.” he said.

”Alright. Breakfast is already served. Please follow immediately.” Li Tian told him.
