14 Day 13: The Scum Is Bold (1/2)

Chen Sheng coughed. ”Sorry.” he apologized and looked away. ”Anyway... I won't go to Upright Sect.” he finished.

It was Xie Lan who first recovered. Looking after Cheng Sheng for 15 years... he knows too well this sharp tongue of his disciple. ”Then what do you plan to do?” he calmly asked. ”Going to the Upright Sect is the best for you – ” he told him, then sighed. He already gave him all the options that now none is left.

Chen Sheng looked at him. ”Going to the Upright Sect is the same as me being killed.” He answered.

Their forehead knotted.

”Brother Chen. What do you mean?” Li Tian asked.

”Brother Chen.” Fei Yin called. ”If this is because of your hate to me – ”

Chen Sheng cut him off. ”Brother Fei. You're flattering yourself too much.” He told him coldly.

Fei Yin shut up.

Chen Sheng turned to them. ”I hate being restrained.” he answered.

With just these four words, they all fell silent. They clearly understand this since they all witnessed this when they were still at the Newfound Land.

After Ming Ye told Chen Sheng to lead his fellow brothers, he agreed but only until one of his fellow senior brothers wake up. Being restrained is the same as bearing responsibility. And as a scum as Chen Sheng is, this is a major inconvenience to him. Scums are free – soul people.

Nothing should bind them.

”Alright. We get your point.” It was Sun Yi, his fellow scum. ”So, what will Junior Brother Chen do now? Your life is on your hands.” He told him and smiled.

They all fell silent.

”This disciple has one thing to ask.” Chen Sheng said after a while. He then bowed.

”What is it, Younger Chen?” Ming Ye asked.

Chen Sheng turned to him. ”I believe that to prevent a disaster we have to pluck it on its root.” He said, then bowed. ”This disciple suggests to look for the culprit.” He answered.

A few second passed before there was an uproar.

”Ah Sheng - !” Chen Han called, panicked and worried.

”Brother Chen...” Li Tian and Feng Mo said, disbelief.

”He's really interesting – ” it was, of course, Sun Yi. Wu Yuan frowned.

”Sheng – er...” Fang Wen called, don't know what to do.

The three elders – Ming Ye, Luo Shi and Xie Lan, are just silent. They know what this means, and where this will lead to.

”I acknowledge your suggestion.” It was Xie Lan.

”Founder!” Li Tian and Feng Mo cried, objecting.

Xie Lan ignored them and looked at Chen Sheng. ”Tell me your reason.” He told him.

”Yes!” Chen Sheng answered and bowed. He then stood straight and looked at Xie Lan. ”If, anybody, found out that somebody is after them – specifically, their life... surely you can't even have the time to blink?” he asked.

Silence fell.

Chen Sheng pursed his lips, really can't stop himself from being sarcastic. Well, I'm a scum. I'm not a White Lotus villain scum. Just a simple villain scum. He thought and continued. ”If this disciple will hide in the Upright Sect, then, as the one who is after me... seeing his target escaped his radars and is protected by a powerful sect... surely, will he still have the leisure to chase after him?” he asked.

”Of course he will hide.” Sun Yi answered in a matter-of-fact tone.

Chen Sheng nodded, then continued. ”If this happens, which surely will, will you not be uneasy and restless now that you'll lose the chance to discover his identity while he still chases me?” he asked and looked at the three elders.

Being injured by the same person, these three elders whose strength is hundred times than that of an elephant, surely their pride won't let it happen.

It was a while before Xie Lan spoke. ”Disciple has a plan in mind?” he calmly asked.

But, before he could answer, the silent as a ninja (but of course, he is a cultivator) Fei Yin cut him off. ”Don't you dare say you'll be a bait.” He said, glaring at Chen Sheng. ”It is common sense that since that person's target is you, you'll have to be the bait.” He said. ”I won't let that!” he said, mad.

”No need to say that.” Chen Han said, his eyes narrowed. ”I won't let anything happen to my Ah Sheng, too – ” he said.

”Something already happened.” Li Tian told him, then sighed. He turned to Chen Sheng. ”Brother Chen...” he called, worried. Feng Mo's face is fallen, too.

Sun Yi and Wu Yuan are just silent, watching. Ming Ye, Luo Shi, Fang Wen and Xie Lan are also silent, but their thoughts are deep. They're torn protecting this disciple or catching the culprit.

”Sheng – er...” it was Fang Wen. He sighed and didn't continue.

Catching the culprit without harming Chen Sheng... is there nothing they could do...?

Chen Sheng spoke. ”Since it's my life that's at risk, and I value my life so much... ” he said. ”How will I let myself be bait?” he asked in the middle of everybody's chagrin.

They froze, then turned to him sharply, both shocked and confused. This Chen Sheng... every minute pass, their understanding of him lessen and lessen.

”Sheng – er...” Fang Wen called. ”Could you... could you - ?” he asked.

”Will you just be direct to the point?” Xie Lan, now pissed instead of worried, said, frowning. (Well, they already wasted few chapters in just this problem).

”Yes!” Chen Sheng immediately answered and bowed. He stood straight. ”This disciple has a plan in mind on how to discern the culprit's identity.” He said, then paused.

”That is?” Luo Shi asked, anxious.

Catching a cultivator that dared hurt two Nascent Soul level, as well as an Immortal level at that, is already next to impossible. So how can they protect a low – level cultivator from that cultivator whose level is unidentified?

If there really is a way, then a miracle is about to happen.

Morning.

”Master.” It was Xia Di, talking to Chen Sheng inside his mind.

”Mm. Good morning.” Chen Sheng said and rubbed his puffy eyes. He did his best to finish discussing the plan early, but still it ended late (very early in the morning).

By the time they already finished discussing the plan, the sun is about to rise.

One, because Chen Han is so dramatic. Two, because Fei Yin is very dramatic. These two are so annoying Chen Sheng, with the rest, almost kicked them out.

”Master.” Xia Di called. ”Is this really alright?” he asked, worried.

”If you'll act like Chen Han and Fei Yin, I'll end our contract.” Chen Sheng told him. Xia Di shut up. ”Like I've already said, I value my life much more than everything else, so I won't let anything take this precious life of mine.” He assured him.

”I won't let anything happen to Master, too.” Xia Di said, serious.

”Good.” Chen Sheng said and get down the bed. He fixed himself, then went out of the room. He squinted his eyes as the sunlight hit his face. ”This dream is so realistic this is like the reality.” He muttered as he looked around the place. He saw his fellow Newfound Sect disciples running around, doing chores. Some are meditating on the side.

He leaned on the wall outside his room.

Like I've already said, I was pulled from my dream and was thrown inside another dream, which is this dream. Yep. One dream to another, so shocking I almost had a nightmare. Chen Sheng thought.

He was in the middle of a galactic war when a force pulled him from behind. Not a second later, he felt a head –splitting pain and when he opened his eyes, the military uniform he was wearing was replaced by multiple layers of robe.

He was thrown to another dream while in the middle of a dream.

When he looked around, he saw he was in the middle of nowhere. He then waited, like he always does, to wake up from the dream since this always happen to him. But, after a day... and another day... he never woke up from this dream.

Of course, he got worried and so he tried countless methods to wake himself up – pinching his cheek, punching his face, biting his arm... but, none succeeded and he's as awake as an owl in the night, watching over his prey. He tried sleeping again and again, hoping that the next time he opens his eyes, he'll see the familiar pastel – colored ceiling of his room.

But, he still saw a starry sky. Starting then, he accepted this fact and will just wait for the time he'll wake up again and be back to reality.

And now it's been fifteen years. From a pre – pubescent kid to a full grown man... Chen Sheng still likes to play around.

Yep. This is like all those video games. All I have to do is keep my life while dodging swords (instead of bullets) and beasts (instead of cars). Even though this body has been in a low – level of cultivation for 15 years, still being alive is already an accomplished task.
