14 First Figh (1/2)

Taking a glance at the map every now and then, he went around three kilometers into the forest after 40 minutes.

Shi Li looked around and saw that there were no monsters in sight. He opened his satchel and took out the Beast Luring Herb included in the basic survival kit.

Within seconds, Shi Li's surroundings was covered in a smell that was quite putrid. Shi Li covered his nose after he took a whiff.

'This Beast Luring Herb's smell is quite strong. I hope it attracts at least one beast.'

And so the wait for a beast to come to Shi Li started.

One minute in…

Three minutes in…

Five minutes in…

Eight minutes in…

By the ten minute mark, Shi Li sighed and started to walk further in. But at the last moment, he heard a rustling sound from behind him, prompting him to stop.

He turned around and went behind a tree that could cover his body with no problem. He didn't want to scare the beast with his presence.

A minute later after Shi Li hid behind the tree, the beast went to where the herb was, showing its appearance to Shi Li. The beast was at the height of Shi Li's waist, with a length of more or less three meters. Its fur was of a dark gray hue, all from the top of its pointy ears to the ends of its four paws. The beast also had sharp teeth that could imprint fear into anyone that looked at it.

This beast was a wolf.

But that wasn't the most important part. The most important was that it didn't exude any aura, classifying the wolf as a beast that hasn't started cultivation. Realizing this, Shi Li sighed in relief.

When someone steps on the path of cultivation, that person would start exude an aura, either consciously or unconsciously. This was also a way for other cultivators to know if the enemies they were facing were stronger or weaker than them. If their aura was able to suppress the aura the enemy releases, then the enemy was weaker than them. If their aura was suppressed by the enemy, then the enemy was stronger than them.

Shi Li waited for it to get closer to the tree he was hiding behind.

Closer…

Closer…

Closer…

Once the wolf was about half a meter away from the tree, Shi Li jumped in front of the wolf with his fist clenched, scaring the wolf into its body freezing up.

Noticing this, Shi Li charged at the wolf as he punched on the top of the wolf's head, only for the wolf to dodge it by a small amount.

Rather than Shi Li's fist landing on the wolf's head, it instead landed on the ground with a thud, creating a small crater.

Shi Li looked at the wolf that was sneering at him. The wolf's body freezing up was all a facade, revealing Shi Li to the wolf.

He couldn't help but mutter out in this situation.

”Shit.”

The wolf took a few steps backward and ran towards Shi Li with its jaw wide open, aiming for Shi Li's legs.

Taking a deep breath, Shi Li analyzed his current situation. Even though he didn't have any combat experience, he would use one of his advantage as much as possible, and that was intellect.

'The wolf is running towards me as it speeds up. I have three options here. I could step back, but it would continue on chasing me. I could face the wolf head-on and punch it on its eyes, but I would risk getting bitten, and worse, inducing the wolf's rage.'

'I guess that leaves me the last option.'
