12 Getting a Weapon (1/2)
As the members of the room finished reading Kalin's skill list one by one, silence filled the room. While he only had four skills, discounting his racial skills, there were many amazing and frightening abilities.
Every face of every person present, besides Kalin's which looked ecstatic, was filled with a look of graveness. After a couple minutes, David finally broke the silence, ”I can see why you didn't want to take any chances. To think Kalin was a boy… and he has a troublesome list of skills to boot.”
Liliana nodded, ”Yes, I was worried about what kind of skills he would have, but some are more dangerous than I expected.”
Kalin, listening to their conversation, had a worried look on his face, ”Are my skills bad?”
Looking at his worried face, Mei couldn't help but smile and say, ”No, your skills are amazing,” while stroking his head, ”It's just some of them are too good that other people will get jealous. Can you promise not to show anybody without asking for permission from Lili?”
Hearing Mei, and feeling her hand petting his head, Kalin felt relief, and then his feeling of excitement returned. He didn't understand why it would be bad to show people his skills, he agreed anyway. ”Mm-hmm!”
Although his race was troublesome, for more than one reason now, the thing that concerned Lili the most was his last two skills on the list. Vocalizing this concern, ”Kal's last two skills are extremely troublesome. Though I was afraid of it, his Spirit of Adventure skill is definitely based on fate, and fate-based skills are not always kind. He'll probably spend most of his life dealing with troubling situations. The other problem is his luck skill. The simple fact that the skill specifically named a deity is a bad sign.”
David nodded, ”Anybody skill that mentions a myth or god will be many times more powerful than a regular one. This is my first time seeing a child with a skill mentioning a high god.”
”This skill is both a blessing and a curse. Even a basic luck-based skill can cause somebody to be worth millions as a slave. A divine one? I shudder at the thought. Nobody must ever speak of this skill, to anybody.” Lili spoke as she turned to the church couple, ”I'm sorry, but can you both take an oath of confidentiality? It's for your own good as well; there is just too much dangerous information you know about.”
The two looked at each other and nodded before they took a solemn vow in front of the shrine,
”I David,”
”And I Beth,”
””Hereby swear by our patron god, The God of Agriculture, that the words spoken in this room shall not be uttered to any earthly ears.””
As a green light came from the shrine, as if to confirm the oath, the tension in the air seemed to lessen.
Sighing, Beth couldn't help but mutter, ”To think this tiny child will have to hide so many things about himself. I couldn't imagine what would happen if the wrong people got their hands on any of his information.”
”From now on, you all need to refer to Kal as my little sister.” Lili said with a serious look on her face, ”There are too many perverted asshats out there.”
Mei couldn't help but frown, ”Lili, we are in a church, don't be crude.”
Lili just shrugged her off as she changed the subject, ”Let's stop talking about this. Like we said earlier, though troublesome, Kal's skills are amazing.” She turned to her brother, ”Lucky brat. Is there anything you want to ask about your skills? While I don't know everything, I know the most out of everybody here.” Of course, she took the opportunity to brag. Bragging seemed to be second nature to her, as if she were just stating the obvious instead of being full of herself.
Kalin shook his head as he said, ”Nope!” His legs clenched together as he started fidgeting and his eyes shifted around the room as he had a half-excited, half-nervous expression on his face. ”Does this mean we can go to the store and get a weapon now?”
