228 Sweet Memories to Live By (1/2)
Jia froze for amoment and was only brought to reality when the car behind her pressed his horn. She suddenly got into her wit and pressed the acceleration mode to follow the car.She was so sure she was not dreaming. He really looked like Jim. But just as she caught them up at the exit border, she was stopped by the parking attendant to give way for the coming ambulance. She could only watch the car as it swerved farther and farther away.
She thought about him again. There was no evidence that he was burned in the fire except for his watch and sunglasses. After all,the fire was too big that the whole house was consumed. If he was indeed burned, his body could no longer be identified.
Yet, she left him on the cottage and probably, whenhe sensed the danger, he could have possibly switched on the power button of hiselectric - powered wheelchair. But why did he not come back?Did he not say that she was his everything?Would he allow her to get married to someone else?
She decided to just go directly toschool to pick Jian up. She would just be thirty minutes earlier and Jian would already be dismissed. She turned on her music player and leaned back on her seat while waiting. As she closed her eyes, the melancholic strain from the grand piano of Richard Clyderman flowed into the air, filling her car with breath of sadness. While she was with Jim,this kind of music would remind her of Anthon, but now that Jim was gone, this music made her remember him with pain.
Despite her coming wedding with Anthon, the memories of Jim were still haunting her during the lonely nights. How could she easily forget his goodness, his unwavering love and selflessness? Though in her innermost part, there was still a cry for Anthon as the man she had first loved and had always loved, Jim's devotion for her would be more than enough for her to pledge him a lifetime of loyalty and companionship. Whose heart would not melt by this kind of thoughtfulness and attention?
But the fatal claws of cancer was so cruel and took them apart...forever.
Thirty minutes later, the noise of car engines woke her up from her reveries. Other parents were already arriving one after another to pick their children up. She hurriedly got down to go to his classroom but Jian met her by the gate.
”Mom! ” He yelled as he came sprinting towards her.
”Baby!” She smiled as she welcomed him in her arms.
”You're a bit early! ” He noticed. Almost everyday,he was always waiting for another thirty minutes to an hour before she would arrive.
.
”Yes. I'm sorry for being always late,my love. How are you today? ”
He smiled sadly and she noticed it. ”Is there anything wrong, son? ”
”I don't understand, mom. But daddy Jim is in my mind the whole day. ”
She touched his head and pulled him into a hug.
”He's also in my mind today, love. ”
Jia said withmisty eyes.
”You miss him,mom? ”
”Always. ”
”Daddy Anthon will soon make you forget him, mom. ”
Jia was taken aback that she almost stopped breathing.
”Son,if you don't like me to get married with your daddy Anthon, then I won't. ”
Jian held her hands. ”It's not what I mean, mom. Lolo is right. Daddy Jim is not coming back. What I mean is that, daddy Anthon will help you take away your loneliness. ”
Jia laughed with tears in her eyes. Perhaps,he got that line from his grandpa. She looked up at the sound of a rolling up window of the car which was parked next to hers. Only to recallthat this was the color of that obstructing car where she thought she saw Jim getting in.
