208 Rescue Him (1/2)

After a short while of attending to Jia, one of the medical rescuers came in with a collapsible, wheeled stretcher. As they were about to fasten the straps around her, she regained her consciousness and sat abruptly.She looked around,saw the crowd and remembered the fire.

Fear engulfed her once again and she started to tremble.

”Send someone,pleaseee! I left him in the cottage near the shore. He's not in the house. ” She cried, thinking about his helplessness.

Anthon, then,bent over and lifted her up into the car.

”What are you doing? Jim is still there! ” She yelled out at him while wriggling vigorously.

”The fire is already all over the place. Let's leave it to therescue team. ”He said firmly, hugging her tight to calm her down.

Jia sobbed in frustration and helplessness. If only she had not listened to him. Then,she thought about something.

”Ton, please release me. At the other side of the premises,there's a vacant lot. We can still come up to the cottage from the shore. ”

Knowing that its pointless to argue with her,he opened the door on his side.

”Just wait here. ” He said as he stepped out.

Jia waited until he was at a considerable distance. Then,powered by an adrenaline rush and her innate recklessness, she ran fast toward his direction, overtook him in a moment,then rushed ahead towards the shore.

To her surprise, firefighters were dispersed all throughout the place and as she looked up,some were even in the cottage where she left him.

”Jim was there!!!” She yelled again, being restricted to come closer due to the heat.

Anthon's voice rang in her ears as he answered.

”They could have found him if he's there. ”

She turned her head towards him and stared in disbelief. Was he confirming his loss?

” Noooo,he was there. He was too weak to go anywhere by himself. ”

Anthon did not answer right away. He, too, was scared of the possibility of his speculations.

”In life - threatening situations like this,we,either,fight to solve the problem or flee away for our safety. It is in these times where weacquire that sudden amazing strength we never could imagine how it existed within us. ”

”What do you mean to say?That he suddenly got a rush of energy and ran inside the house to stop the

fire? ” She said angrily, hating the fact that he dared to verbalize the possible truth that she was so scared to even think about.
