”I may not be able to give my son the kind of wealth that you have, Mr. Wayne, but I can give him the wealth of an emotional security that can make him happy all throughout his life.” Jia said, her lips quivering.
”I may not have the right to set a standard on what would make anyone happy, but I am sure that the most essential constituents of a happy life cannot be bought with your wealth.”
”See to it,Mr. Wayne, that you will not rob your son his happiness the moment you are crowned with fame and profit as the world looks at you in wonder and in awe.”
”See to it that when you jump with so much joy and happiness, you will also see how much your son has to lose in order for youto win.”
”You will never understand the worth of a family because you have never established one.The word father and husband is but a title out of respect because you were never been there.”
”You're already on your withering age but can you,at least, tell when was the last time you felt truly happy? ”
”It is easy for you to break a home because you never have one.”
”I wish you happiness, Mr. Wayne, the kind of happiness that you would recall on your deathbed. Because the wealth that you have worked so hard to build would only cause you heartache as you will realize that all of those will be left behind.”
”And forgive me, Mr. Wayne,I will not allow you to rob your son his life and happiness. I will fight to the
end.”
Mr. Wayne was deeply moved but his ego would not allow him to concede.
Never did he expect, that this woman whom he regarded as worthless for his son could have sosharp a tounge to pierce into his hardened heart.
He was almost temptedto retract at that very moment, because he knew Jia was right. He had never been truly happy. Most of all, he would be destroying the unit his very own son called as his family!Yet,the glitters of fame and fortune had long become his obsession. The temptation of a greater power had become his attraction. All of these, could be spelled out into a single word.Pride!
Mr. Wayne did not say a word. He was neither angered. He just talked a little more to Jian before he finally took his steps toward the door. After he slipped into the driver's seat, he called up Jian and the latter ran to him. Jia,then, saw him handing out a check to him and heard him say, ”that's lolo's gift to you.”
The child bounced up to her right after his car disappeared and , then, showed her the check. It was a great fortune!Perhaps, it was Mr. Wayne's way of paying her in exchange of her disappearance. His way of providing her as she would start a new life on her own.
After locking the door and bidding goodbye to Auntie Elsa who was stiffling her urge to cry, Jim, unexpectedly, arrived via a hired car.
He,then, took the luggages to his own car and told them to get in.
”Why are you here?” Jia still wondered why he came home.
”Sweetheart, what kind of question is that?”Jim returned her question, instead,as he ran a finger on her hair.
