Chapter 217 - Life Or Death (1/2)

Demonic and divine energy could not exist with each other. Evan knew this well and never allowed them to meet each other in the same body. In his past world, most light mages used spells based on divine energy. In contrast, there were demonologists and dark mages.

There was no way Evan would expect this spell to contain both demonic and divine power. Only demon spells and forbidden dark magic spells contained demonic energy. Evan was sure he could easily sense its presence in another spell, but he didn't notice anything. At the last second of his life, he realized why this had happened.

The demonic and divine energies suppressed each other, causing Evan not to notice their presence in the spell. Moreover, the spell itself was not ordinary at all. Evan assumed that only spells used by members of light organizations would have divine energy. They must have had their own secret techniques and unique spells.

Evan died within seconds. His body couldn't take it, and it was his heart that took the brunt of it. It just burst because of the overload. Evan's blood slowly spilled over the stone floor. From the outside, it might have looked as if someone had killed Evan.

A crackle.

A crackling sound was heard. It came from Evan's Warp. When the mage died, ”Nirvana” did not disappear immediately. It gradually disintegrated, just as the Warp did.

With each passing second, the cracks in the crimson sphere grew larger and larger, and very soon, it would collapse completely.

Crack.

When ”Warp” should have broken into small pieces, the scythe inside the sphere suddenly came into motion. It had only activated once during the entire time, during a test at the academy, the rest of the time, it just hovered inside Evan's Warp.

He knew nothing of the power or nature of this scythe. Last time it had somehow strangely altered the purple spirit, causing it to transmit the wrong information.

Whoosh.

A dark energy began to emanate from the scythe. More and more of it came out with each passing second. As cracks formed in the Warp, this darkness was able to escape its limits. It simultaneously held ”Warp” back from destruction and slowly consumed the entire space.

”Nirvana” was an infinite space, but the darkness emitted by the slash could spread over very far distances.

...

Since Nirvana and Warp were still intact, Evan's consciousness still existed in this world. If not for the strange scythe, he would have died long ago.

”А? Where am I?” Evan muttered, puzzled. He was sure that the contact of the two energies had caused him to be killed, but now he was in some strange place.

<Hmm, it's only my consciousness. My real body is already dead. But, why do I still exist and can even think? It looks like I have a chance to get out of this mess.>

Evan thought, looking at the two doors in front of him. They stood in the middle of space. One of them was white and crystal clear. There was a pleasant and soothing aura about it, like a gateway to heaven.

The second door was very different. It was not a gate to hell. It didn't burn brightly, and there was no lava spreading out beside it. It would be more accurate to say that the second door was like a gate to the abyss.

It was as black as pitch-black. It gave off a calm but oppressive and desolate aura. If heaven was like good and hell like evil, then the abyss was the third side. There was nothing but emptiness and the lost souls of the long dead.

Evan had to decide which door to walk through, and he immediately decided on his choice.

Click.

Evan opened the dark door, and as he walked on, there was a long path of stone slabs in front of him. He walked leisurely forward. Evan didn't know if his choice was right, but he wouldn't even consider the white door an option. The very thought of touching something so light, bright, and supposedly beautiful disgusted him.

Step. Step. Step.
