Chapter 46 - Clothes (1/2)
There wasn't much time left before the auction started. Evan was supposed to meet Marcel at 11 p.m., so the young man decided to go home and practice a little.
Before going to the Academy of Magic, Evan wanted to achieve the first stage of ”Awareness” from the ”Magic Missile”. He was confident that he could achieve this goal.
It should be understood that the ”Beginner” level is only the very beginning. As in Evan's case, some magicians reached this stage even before they knew what their Class was. And it wasn't because they were learning a spell of the Type of Magic they were most inclined to. While a talented magician could reach the ”Beginner” level in a month of hard training, for many it was an impossible task to reach the ”Intermediate” level.
Don`t forget that Evan's spells are the simplest of the 0 Level spells. In the future, he will learn much more powerful and unique spells.
Evan has thought many times about which Class he would rather be. ”Amplifier” and ”Creator” suited him equally well. Each of these Classes had their pros and cons, but to Evan they were still better than ”Summoner”.
Evan had seen the experienced the ”Summoner”, namely Marcel, in action. What's more, he himself had one spell of the ”Summoning Magic”. Nevertheless, in Evan's opinion, the ”Summoners” had one fatal flaw. Namely, the vast majority of the time they were weak on their own.
If you imagine a war between magicians, each Class will have its own role on the battlefield. ”Amplifiers” will definitely be in the vanguard. They are the strongest fighters in a one-on-one battle among all three Classes.
”Creators” will be behind ”Amplifiers”, but they will also be heavily involved in the battle. As Zak said, ”Creators” are the best when it comes to mass combat.
”Summoners” will be the rearguard. Because of their specifics, they will not be able to defeat ”Amplifiers” in one-on-one combat. And their destructive power usually lagged far behind that of ”Creators”. There were exceptions, of course, but that's why they were exceptions: they were very few.
Only when teamed with another Class, the ”Summoners” could reach their full potential. Even Evan, who knew only one spell of ”Summoning Magic”, was able to immobilize an enemy for a while. That was already a big help during a battle.
Experienced ”Summoners” had a wide range of spells. They could protect and enhance themselves and others. They also had the ability to heal their partners' wounds, such as when Marcel had healed Evan and Fiennes after their duel. The list went on and on, including scouting, immobilizing the enemy, slowing down, poisoning, and so on.
”Summoners” were a kind of universal force capable of both helping allies and hindering enemies. Furthermore, top-class ”Summoners” were highly valued in the world of magicians. They were a perfect addition to any team.
If a ”Summoner” and an ”Amplifier” fight against a team of two ”Creators” or ”Amplifiers”, they will win an unqualified victory. Thanks to the invaluable support of the ”Summoner”, the ”Amplifier” can easily deal with two opponents equal to him in strength. Moreover, the ”Summoner” himself, though not comparable to his partner in firepower, is also able to attack.
For example: suppose, Marcel and Zak are attacked by a team of three ”Creators”, and their strengths are roughly equal. On the one hand it seems that there is no way two mages can stand against three, but in fact it is not so.
Marcel and Zak are masters of their craft, moreover they are best friends and their teamwork is top-notch. Marcel will distract one ”Creator” and strengthen Zak with one of his Spells. Moreover, if Zak gets injured, Marcel will heal him.
Of course, it won't be easy for the two of them to fight against three, but they will win, albeit with difficulty. Nevertheless, if the enemy team has one mage of each Class, the duo will have very little chance of winning.
Evan understood the importance and power of the ”Summoners”, but he didn't want to depend on anyone. Evan was selfish and single-minded, and he was well aware of that. He wanted to be able to defeat the enemy alone if he had to, not rely on someone else to do it for him. There was nothing wrong with believing in the strength of his allies, but that was not Evan's style.
...
After leaving the ”Shadow of the Thread”, Evan returned to his home. Nothing much he did. The young man just practiced using ”Magic Missile” and ”Create”, when he ran out of mana. He didn't have much time, so it could hardly be called full training.
