Chapter 45 - Telling The Truth (1/2)
Hecathe stepped inside the room and took a deep breath in before coughing as he inhaled all the dust.
Zail covered his mouth in advance as he suggested, ”I can help you settle in. Just a little bit of cleaning and this place would look brand new!”
Hecathe sighed as he turned around and stopped Zail from stepping inside the room, ”Your help is appreciated but it would not be needed. I wouldn't want to bother you anymore so you can leave. Thank you for all that you've done till now.”
Hecathe didn't even bother listening to the man's response as he shut the door on the man's face rather rudely.
Zail gulped as he stayed at the same spot for a solid minute, wondering if Hecathe was any different from the other hunter tenant that had done the same thing when he first moved in just a day ago.
”They're... Definitely going to get along!” Zail muttered to himself as he concluded before turning and heading towards his own room.
Hecathe covered his mouth as he looked around the room.
There was a bed, there was a table and chair and there was even a table light kept on top of the table. There was also a cupboard that could be used and even a washroom that was joined to the room.
To look at it practically, there was nothing that Hecathe would lack here. If he could clean up everything, although it might not be the best facility out there, it would still be adjustable and he wouldn't have a hard time living here.
Hecathe took off the cloth that covered the chair and wiped off the dust from the table with it before sitting down and taking out his pocket-sized briefcase.
He pressed the button on top of it and threw it forward as he watched the suitcase grow bigger.
When someone would first move into a house, they would start cleaning the place and settling in, this was to be expected, however, instead of doing any of that, Hecathe raised his hand as he opened the QMS.
”Xanie, you there?” Hecathe questioned as he sent the girl a voice message and waited for a few minutes to get a response.
”Captain, is everything okay there?” Xanie was pretty quick to reply as if she was waiting to get news from Hecathe.
Hecathe nodded his head as he replied to her, ”I've found a room to rent and I can get by for a few days.”
”That's good, Captain.” Xanie sighed in relief, ”I really hope you can turn a new leaf now.”
”...”
”I've thought about what you said for a really long time and I really think that you should do what your heart tells you to do. If freedom is what you're after then I hope you can finally find that freedom. To be trapped in your own creation, it's certainly torture so I'm glad that I was able to help you escape.”
Hecathe sighed as he heard her pouring her heart out and sympathizing with him genuinely.
”Xanie, listen,” The guilt Hecathe felt in his heart eventually made him reveal the truth, ”I lied to you.”
”...” There was no reply from Xanie for a solid minute after this and it didn't look like the woman was going to respond to him either.
When Hecathe got no response, he continued, ”I'm not here because I wanted to find freedom nor am I here to enjoy my life.”
”Captain... What do you mean?” Unlike the previous voice message that Xanie had sent him, this time, there were no emotions contained in her voice.
”You must listen to me very carefully because this is really important,” Hecathe spoke up with his cold authoritative tone, ”I'm here to investigate Orgon's murder.”
”...”
