Chapter 33: Persuasion (2/2)

When Xie Mengxuan was simmering with resentment at their words, Zhao Long shouted at him with a smile, “Geng Zhishan, don’t forget us the moment you become an immortal.”

Eventually, Xie Mengxuan found it unbearable and went forward. “According to his birth date and horoscope, he’s the chosen one. Why should he keep you murderers in mind?”

She particularly emphasized the word—“murderer”.

All the people present changed their expressions. As good as this matter was said to be, they were well aware of the truth, in fact. They were just giving tactful consent.

As long as it was not their turn, it was not a bad thing.

Aunt Cui interfered with a bright smile. “This young lady doesn’t have a silver tongue. Please, don’t blame her.”

Afterward, Aunt Cui went to Geng Zhishan. “Needless to say, what do you reckon, Geng Zhishan?”

With his head low, he stood mute as if he had lost the ability to speak. Looking up at Aunt Cui, Geng pursed his lips, And with his eyes turning red, he clenched his teeth.

Aunt Cui let out a long sigh. “It’s a natural, rather than a man-made calamity. What you’re going to do is to please the Mountain God, right?”

She adopted a soft voice as a way of persuasion. “Don’t worry. All of us will keep you in our hearts and burn incense for you.”

“Aunt Cui, you want me to die,” said Geng Zhishan after remaining silent for a long while.

Aunt Cui chuckled and said with a mother-like tone. “Silly boy, why do you mention death? Although the Mountain God died, she was later appointed by providence to become an immortal for her undertakings. It’s likely that you might as well have the same chance.”

Looking at the sorceress, Geng Zhishan said with a firm tone. “In that case, instead of only talking about the birth horoscope, why not invite the Mountain God to have a clear look at all of us who are present?”

The sorceress slightly shook her head. Aunt Cui grumbled at him from the side. “My child, how could it be so simple to meet an immortal? What’s more, it is not us who are able to determine your birth horoscope. If you are indignant, you can only blame yourself for being born at that exact moment.”

It was the first time that others had asked him to put the blame on his parents.

Geng Zhishan had a gloomy look in his eyes. Another person chimed in. “Moreover, others can only wait for such a good thing to befall them.”

“No, I don’t want it. The sorceress is so competent that she must have mastered the spell of grafting. Why not graft my birth horoscope to anyone else who longs for such a godsend? Why should I be a sacrifice?” said Geng Zhishan, turning his head with an unwilling look.

Upon hearing his words, everyone kicked up a fuss. As they had said before, as long as such things didn’t befall them, it was none of their business. When it came to their interests, however, it was totally different.

“Geng Zhishan, don’t be that selfish. We’ve never been mean to you. Even if you’re unwilling, how could you do harm to us?”

Aunt Cui also pulled a long face.

Geng Zhishan looked at the man who just spoke. “You just said it’s a good thing. If so, why is it harmful to you? It’s you who has the final say on whether it’s good or not?”

Aunt Cui finally lost her patience. At this time, Xie Mengxuan spoke in his favor, “Whatever you come across, you tend to give an excuse that you’ve never been mean to him. Have you never benefited from Geng Zhishan over the past years?”

Xie Mengxuan glanced around. Some stood still with confidence while some who wore a guilty expression went backward with their heads low.

Looking around, Geng Zhishan asked, “Do you agree?”

No one answered, And Aunt Cui’s face darkened. “Geng Zhishan, give a definite response. Don’t sow discord among us.”

Geng Zhishan chuckled with a bitter expression. “I can’t because my horoscope is false.”
