Chapter 25: Gu Yusheng Returned (2/2)

Then he left the house.

Uncle Luo closed the door from outside and leaned against the frame with his eyes closed.

“Xuan’er, you and him...” Gu Yusheng hesitated for a moment and asked, “Do you remember your identity?”

Gu Yusheng gazed outside with hesitation. Xie Mengxuan understood what he was thinking. She smiled and said, “Geng Zhishan? Brother Gu doesn’t need to worry. We are not married. When I got to the village, the people here wanted to drive me off. In order to save me, he lied about us being a couple, so I could stay here.”

Xie Mengxuan turned her head and looked out. “He is a simple man. From then on, he keeps calling me his wife. I refused several times to admit that, but it was useless. Later, I found that someone was spying on our cabin from time to time. Thus, I thought that if I refuse all the time, it will arouse suspicion in others. Therefore, I silently went along with it.”

Gu Yusheng could not help frowning; she was indeed sentimental when talking about him. So she couldn’t stay here anymore. It would be terrible if they fell in love as time went by. A simple man? The man could deceive Mengxuan, but he could not fool him. He was playing a role in a charade, so was Geng Zhishan. They both had their own intentions. He was able to find Geng’s trick more easily.

Xie Mengxuan continued talking. “Anyway, maybe I won’t see the people in this village in the future. Worse still, if I don’t admit it when I meet them, they can’t slander me.”

Gu Yusheng touched her head, wearing a smile. “You’ve become different from before. It seems I really haven’t seen you for years.”

“You too.” She asked again at random, “Where did you go just now?”

Gu Yusheng looked outside discreetly and then said with a lower voice. “I went to the temple on the mountain to see if there were any messages.”

“Did you receive one?” Xie Mengxuan could not help getting close to him with a little eagerness in her tone.

“Yes, I have. It came three days ago and told us to come back to the Imperial Capital as soon as possible.” Gu Yusheng said while taking out a note from his sleeve.

Xie Mengxuan reached for it as her eyes flashed, and she seemed to be a little excited. Then she took a deep breath, “All right. Pack up our luggage. We will leave for The Imperial Capital tomorrow!”

Gu Yusheng nodded his head. He believed that everything could be changed if they left this place. Thinking that, he then squinted, “But before we leave here, I have something to finish first.”

Xie Mengxuan didn’t ask what he would do. But when he left, she felt a sense of unease because she didn’t know what would happen if Geng knew that she was going to leave.

Xie Mengxuan noticed that she was actually concerned about the idea of Geng Zhishan, so she could not help pinching her forehead.

Gu Yusheng came back and went out again. Geng Zhishan didn’t care about his whereabouts. He just cooked fish soup for Xie Mengxuan and brought it to her with a smile on his face.

Xie Mengxuan took a sip, gently touched the edge of the bowl with her fingers, and said, “Geng Zhishan, I have something to say.”

“I don’t want to know.” Geng Zhishan interrupted her and turned his head back.

Xie Mengxuan was perplexed at his words and could not help laughing at his childish movements. “What are you doing? I haven’t even said anything yet.”

“The last time you had something for me was to say that I have nothing to do with your affairs. And now you’re ready to say something to me again. It must not be anything good.” Geng said with somewhat aggrieved feelings.

“But you need to know this.” Xie Mengxuan sighed, “Even if you don’t want to listen, you can’t change reality.”

Geng Zhishan turned his head, stared at Xie Mengxuan, and murmured, “Go ahead.”

Xie Mengxuan moved her lips, took a deep breath, and said, “I’m leaving.”

“What? Where do you want to go? Are you going to leave with that jerk?” Geng Zhishan pointed outside the house, and his tone could not help becoming a little higher and harsher.

Xie Mengxuan frowned, for she was unaccustomed to Geng Zhishan’s such behavior.
