Chapter 226 - They Should Not Bully His Granddaughter (1/2)
When Li Ren Xin arrived in the dining area, he was greeted by the cheery chattering and laughter of his wife and his granddaughter. He entered the dining area silently and his wife was the first to notice his presence.
”Old man, you're here,” Mu Ling Xi called out with a smile. ”We have been waiting for you for a long time. Come. Come. Sit down.” She stood up to grab the old man's hand and dragged him to a seat next to her. Then, she turned to Auntie Han and the hot dishes were brought in into the room.
Li Ren Xin looked at the array of dishes on the table and frowned. He knew that his wife enjoyed cooking. Every time they received a guest in the house, his wife would not forget to feed their guest with a lot of food before she would let them leave.
A few days ago, when his wife heard that their granddaughter, Li Qin Yao would be coming to visit with her boyfriend, his wife was got excited that she spent hours thinking of what she wanted to cook for this granddaughter.
”What happened to Mu Chen?” Mu Ling Xi whispered as she leaned to her husband.
Li Ren Xin's mood was dampened as he heard Li Mu Chen's name. His anger rose as he thought of what he had witnessed with his very own eyes earlier. ”She went back with her father.”
”Ah? Li Jing came earlier?” Mu Ling Xi's eyes brightened as she heard that her son had dropped by earlier. ”Why didn't you ask them to have lunch with us?”
”They have important stuff to deal with,” Li Ren Xin spoke in a low tone. ”Moreover, Yao Yao and her boyfriend are here. Do you want them to be uncomfortable?”
Mu Ling Xi narrowed her eyes at her husband. When she looked at her granddaughter again, a smile appeared on her face. ”Why do you guys keep staring at the food. Eat. Eat. I cooked them especially for you when I heard that you will be coming to visit. Yao Yao, didn't you like grandmother's steamed garlic prawn the most?”
Seeing that the elders have started to pick up their chopstick, both Li Qin Yao and Zhang Yu Han followed suit, and soon, the harmonious atmosphere where the old and younger generation shared their meals could be seen.
As lunch was approaching the end, Li Qin Yao reached to hold Zhang Yu Han's hand under the table. The two of them exchanged a glance and smiled.
”Grandfather, grandmother. Actually, I came back this time because I have something to announce.” Li Qin Yao paused to study her grandparents' expression. Her heart sped up as she was suddenly anxious at how her grandparents would react at her announcement.
Zhang Yu Han gave a squeeze at his wife's hand to show his encouragement.
Taking a deep breath. Li Qin Yao continued, ”Zhang Yu Han and I had obtained our marriage certificate earlier this week.”
Mu Ling Xi's mouth parted, while Li Ren Xin had a deep frown on his face as they both heard the unexpected news. There was a brief silence as the two elders were not sure whether their ears were playing tricks on them.
”You got married?” Mu Ling Xi was the first to broke the silence.
Li Qin Yao nodded slowly.
”But why so sudden?” Mu Ling Xi asked. It was only a few weeks ago when her granddaughter came and introduce this man as her boyfriend. How come his status changed so quickly to her husband? A thought crossed her mind, but she dare not to say it out loud.
”Grandfather, grandmother,” Zhang Yu Han spoke up. ”Although this news might come a little sudden for you, marrying your granddaughter is something that I have been dreaming for a long time. I love Li Qin Yao and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Therefore, I asked her to marry me.” He turned to the woman beside her and his gaze turned gentler. ”And she had said yes.”
Mu Ling Xi looked at the couple alternately and saw the way they were looking at each other. ”You and your cousin Ming Han is the same. Only telling me everything once you've took action,” she sighed. ”Since both of you had already obtained a marriage certificate, what else can we say?”
Li Ren Xin cleared his throat. The frown on his face deepened. ”It's fine if you wanted to marry my granddaughter. But what about a wedding ceremony? Are you not going to give my granddaughter a wedding?”
