Chapter 7 - She Would Buy Insurance From Him (1/2)

The moment Li Qin Yao stepped into the shop, the sweet smell of baked good wafted over. She unconsciously closed her eyes to enjoy the mixture of sweet smell from pastries and coffee and immediately felt comforted.

Then, Li Qin Yao went put her bag in the small office as she glanced at the phone screen.

Earlier, after she had retrieved her phone back, Li Qin Yao had given a few calls and messages to her boyfriend, Chen Hao. But he had not picked up or returned to any of her messages.

Li Qin Yao frowned.

Could it be that he was still mad at her?

Li Qin Yao sent another text to her boyfriend and then plugged her phone to the charger. Then, she put on her apron and walked into the kitchen.

Her employee greeted her as she walked in. There were three people in the kitchen and three more in the dining area. Every one of them was busy with their task.

Li Qin Yao waved her hand and let them continue with their work.

First, she went to the counter and poured herself a cup of coffee. Only after a half cup of coffee did she find her head cleared and more awake.

Li Qin Yao began her work with inspecting the cleanliness of the kitchen. When she was satisfied, she grabbed a file on top of the cabinet and double-checked for any orders and reservation. Then she looked into the inventories.

Once she was sure that everything was at its place, Li Qin Yao washed her hand and dried them thoroughly and peeked at her employee who was busy with their mise-en-place. The cafe will start operating in another thirty minutes, and Li Qin Yao was satisfied to see that everything was almost ready.

”Qin Yao,” Auntie Yu, one her baker peeked at her as she stood next to the kitchen mixer. ”You're unusually late today. Something happened?”

Li Qin Yao smiled at the middle age lady. She grabbed a tray of mini tart shells and a tube of custard on top of the worktable. Then she started to pour the custard into the crust. ”I had a meeting with someone.”

”Oh,” Auntie Yu's placed a hand on her chest as she heaved. ”I thought you met an accident when I couldn't reach your phone.”

Yin Mei Xuan appeared beside them holding a bowl of strawberries. ”See Auntie Yu; I told you that Li Qin Yao is alright. You worried too much.” She grabbed a paring knife and started slicing the strawberries.
