Chapter 44 - Ambush (II) (1/2)

While Looking at the first enemy that caught his eyes, Shad could clearly see that this person wasn't some lowly bandit or mercenary. He had a determined look on his face as though he was ready to die for his cause. this person had the look of a soldier rather than an assassin or a bandit.

Shad carefully held his breath and climbed slowly a little higher. He was currently hidden on the treetop, looking down from up high, carefully scanned all the area below with his spiritual force to determine the exact position of all the enemies as well as their numbers.

Looking down below, Shad saw more than seventy people lying on the ground with their body covered with tree leaves and branches, only their faces were visible. From their positions, they could clearly see the soldiers below as well his carriage. To make matter worse, his soldiers were traveling with torches on their hands as it was in the middle night, this facilitated the attackers to know their exact positions despite their short range of visibility.

Whether it was the terrain, their positions, the attackers had a huge advantage over Shad's troops. Shad knew that this ambush was clearly planned ahead of time. His enemies were laying there waiting for him to pass to this specific area. How did the group know Shad and his group would pass here while there were numbers of roads that they could have taken?

These people were extremely calculated, especially their hiding positions. there wasn't a huge distance between them, and could clearly see each other. The person lying at the end could clearly see the person lying a few meters away from him, vice-versa. In another word, Once one of them was attacked, the whole group will know like a domino effect.

Seeing their formation, Shad knew for sure that they weren't some group of bandits. They were a well trained and coordinated bunch. In the middle of them, there was the person that caught Shad's attention because he did not have any crossbow in front of him but there were five people guarding him. His position was at the center of the group and was most definitely their boss or commander.

Shad knew that no matter what he did or who he attacked he would be discovered and the whole group would gang up on him as he was their intended target, not to mention the soldiers that were going up the mountains to attack the enemies were still under heavy fire as the arrows kept raining down upon them like a meteor shower.

If he kept waiting, he would lose a lot of his soldiers and if he attacked he would be discovered by the whole group. Shad quickly made up his mind. As soon as they fired the crossbows before they could even recharge them, Shad channeled the lightning energy within his body at its limit and

jumped from the treetop to the ground.

Like a silent ghost of the night, Shad pounced towards the man at the center who he believed was the leader of them. He was like a tiger that found his prey as he ran towards the man with his eyes shone brightly like a demon.

His speed was so fast that one might think he was floating and his feet did not touch the ground. Like a lion grabbing his prey, his ten fingers were like beast claws as it curled and fiercely sprung forward.
