61 Blind Date? (2/2)

”Eh? No... should I? I just assumed so from your mannerisms.”

Seeing the surprised look on Qiu Yue's face Bai Yi knew that she wasn't lying.

”Just now, we met on the road.”

Qiu Yue waited for her to continue but, after a few minutes, she realized there was no continuation.

”I don't remember anyone I met on the road today though...?” (⌒_⌒;)

Bai Yi's eyes-brows twitched. Was she this unimportant?! That Qiu Yue has already forgotten?!

But before she says anything Qiu Yue's phone rang. Generally, Qiu Yue wouldn't pick up calls while she was talking to someone but then seeing 'Darling~' on the screen, she couldn't bear to ignore it either.

”Are you angry with me?”

Even before Qiu Yue could greet him, Qiao Feng's usually confident deep voice rang out, tinged with anxiousness and worry.

Just listening to his voice melted away Qiu Yue's irritation. 'I made him worry...'

A helpless sweet smile bloomed on her face as her voice grew gentler, making Bai Yi's heart jump a little.

”How can I be angry with you? I've already decided to trust you, this sort of thing isn't enough to even scratch it.”

Qiu Yue promised him that she'd only take half an hour more, telling him that she was slow because she was with a friend before hanging up.

”So you had to meet your boyfriend?”

Bai Yi asked.

Qiu Yue could hear the unspoken question.

”En, he had to meet someone. A girl his mother has chosen for him to marry. You see, she doesn't really approve of me.”

Qiu Yue trailed off into wry laughter.

'And I'm here to meet someone exactly like that...' Bai Yi couldn't help but think. But there wasn't any way there could be such a coincidence right?

Perhaps because she felt slightly guilty after hearing what Qiu Yue had said, Bai Yi softened. Surprisingly for her, even after Bai Yi told Qiu Yue her full name, she didn't have any reaction.

Of course, Qiu Yue has already known who this girl was, but she didn't think she needed to give a reaction. She wouldn't have spent so much time here with her, right now, otherwise. She would've just let it be even if she did find Bai Yi cute.

Somehow any relationship that one cultivated would always have an opportunity to repay the effort.

Perhaps it sounded manipulative or cold, but that was simply the truth.

Though Qiu Yue did seem to have fun talking to Bai Yi anyway, she really felt bad, keeping Qiao Feng waiting. They exchanged numbers and Qiu Yue promised to introduce Bai Yi to a few of her favourite cafes in the city as they walked towards 'Turquoise'.

When they stepped into the restaurant, Bai Yi purposefully slowed down, walking behind Qiu Yue. Seeing her new friend walk towards the same man she was supposed to meet for a marriage interview, Bai Yi's heart sank.

It wasn't like she liked Qiao Feng. However, she felt uncomfortable, as though she had something heavy in her stomach. She felt like she had deceived Qiu Yue somehow.

By the time Qiu Yue turned around to look for Bai Yi, she had already disappeared. As her gaze shifted around the floor looking for her, her phone pinged with a new message.

Bai YiYi: tell me when you want to go out to that cafe you were talking about.

Qiu Yue could kind of guess why Bai Yi had left, but she didn't probe the issue.

She turned back to look at Qiao Feng, pouting.

”You missed the dinner I made!”

”I'm sorry.”

Qiao Feng's rueful smile and downturned eyes made Qiu Yue sigh. How was she supposed to get angry at all when he was like this? In fact, Qiu Yue felt bad mentioning it. She leaned forward and kissed him on his cheek, lightly pressing her lips to his skin.

Since he hadn't eaten yet, Qiu Yue sat down with him. They spoke as he ate and then Qiu Yue dragged him to the clothing stores for a bit. Anyways they were late, might as well take some time and go on a midnight date.

They tried on many different styles of clothes. Sadly all Qiao Feng ever told her was she looked beautiful, she was beginning to suspect he'd say that even if she wasn't wearing anything.

Honestly, if she'd said that to Qiao Feng he'd have retorted by saying that she'd look beautiful especially if she wasn't wearing anything.

She picked out many different styles for him, letting him try different things on. Perhaps he tried on more clothes than she had, giving all the sales staff that generally disliked staying late a great show. For once they truly felt like having the night shift was amazing.

Qiao Feng simply couldn't say no to her, so he just tried on everything. Having new clothes wasn't a bad thing, he did need some.

At the end, it was already 12:30 and the stores were starting to shut down as Qiu Yue and Qiao Feng carried all the bags to the car. Though Qiao Feng was carrying more than Qiu Yue, they'd both done enough shopping to fill their arms with bags.

They loaded it in the back and Qiu Yue happily sat in the shotgun seat, gladly relinquishing the keys to Qiao Feng. Qiao Feng just laughed, wondering how many people could look at his car with disdain like this.

The ride back was quiet. Though there were still cars passing by compared to day time it was still very empty. The car just zoomed past the streets and Qiu Yue closed her eyes, savouring the feeling of the wind on her skin.

She reached out and switched on the radio with practised ease.

”...and now, as a special song to all those feeling sad, missing someone tonight - Qiu Yue's Fact-Fiction.”

The host spoke in a gentle and deep voice, suiting the atmosphere. As her own voice played on the radio, Qiu Yue thought back to how she'd been when she'd first sang this song, realizing it wasn't actually that long ago.

Qiao Feng could sense the shift in her emotions. It could be said that even he was affected by this song. Throughout his life, only her voice and her words had been able to affect him so. Especially this song.

Taking one hand off the steering, he reached out Qiu Yue's warm hand, entwining it with his own, interlocking their fingers together as his fingertips ran across her soft skin.

Qiu Yue looked at their hands together fondly.

”...show off.”

Though her words were curt, she said them so softly that Qiao Feng really wanted to lean over and take her lips. However, if he did that, Qiu Yue would scold him, so he held back.

He held back... until he got into the parking lot.
