419 Reaching the Heavenly City (2/2)
For the local folk that is.
Contrary to my expectations, the journey didn't take as long as it would seem like it would from the words of my guide. Just from the fact that in a mere hour of walking at an insanely slow pace we could already spot the hints of the city being in the distance it had to be either insanely great or rather close!
While common sense would dictate that located on an island, without the modern technology supporting it, there was only so much that a city could grow, I learned long ago that what I believed to be a common-sense didn't apply to most of the things that I experienced in this world. Just the medicinal herbs alone were enough to upset the balance of birth and death that kept the population in medieval cities in check, making them grow only thanks to the constant influence of the outsiders rather than their original population breeding fast enough to keep up with the mortality rate. The abundance of meat in the form of magic beasts and how little your average human had to eat it to completely fill his belly also limited how vast farmlands were always necessary to support such city.
Regretfully, when we finally reached the gates of the city, while it was a bit bigger than I expected it to be, it was nowhere as grand as I wanted it to be!
Buil by surrounding five, steep mountains with a sizeable wall, even from outside I could see grand buildings placed all over the mountainside, with characteristic typical for Chinese architecture. While such a coincidence would make me wonder a few weeks ago, for me now it only meant that the transmigrator with a system that influenced them simply hailed from that part of the world!
But I had to say, considering the details of those grand buildings that I could already tell to be the headquarters of various rivalling sects, one of the fellow earthlings of mine that stumbled upon this world a bit earlier than me, really knew his job!
\”Halt! Who is coming?!\”
Obviously, considering how this place served as headquarters for the entire nation, there was no way that in hell that we could just waltz in through the gate. Instead, my guide moved to the front and bowed deeply while signalling me to do the same.
Which I obviously didn't consider how the guard was on a similar level to the small fries that were dying from the collateral damage back when I was feeding system the experience points farmed from their lives!
