Chapter 159 - Choosing a path (1/2)
Following the advice of the cleaner, we found the building that he mentioned. The problem is, there was another queue in front of its doors! While it wasn't even close to being comparable to the one we encountered while registering, it would still take us at least a quarter of the hour to wait it out!
With nothing better to do as we waited, I finally found some time to sweep through the content of Bonger's upgrade. While I paid it a little attention back when we were travelling to this city, my thoughts at that time were focused on Eve instead of my own growth.
”Should I splurge on more information?”
Asking Eve without any context should be pointless, but I actually just said my thoughts out loud. There is no way I would ever mention anything that would be even the slightest hint towards the existence of my system in the public like that!
”While I'm not sure what you mean, isn't information the greatest tool? Knowing what kind of techniques your enemy is using, which weapon is he most proficient with, what are his innate or acquired traumas… All of that is kind of information that would give you an edge in a fight!”
Puzzled by my sudden question that I wasn't going to ask in the first place, Eve answered to the best of her capabilities. While her words were still coming from the local common sense, she actually brought a right point.
Information is a weapon. If you know how to use it, it could prove far more useful than a simple sword or spear! With information, you can frame others, uncover their hidden ploys, avoid their schemes or simply use it to gain an advantage in a fight!
There was even this famous quote of a legendary Chinese war philosopher, Sun Tzu. ”If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
There was a reason why this quote didn't contain the part of knowing your enemy but not knowing yourself. The first step to understanding everything laid in understanding oneself. With that, I think I start to understand why all the Bonger's tools are so pricey!
Bonger, I want to unlock the universal analyzer tool!
”Blop!”
”Host sure is smart!”
”Cost of unlocking universal analyzer on a second grade is 1000 attribute points.”
”Do you wish to continue?”
Yes, I do. Do you need to confirm this even when I'm asking for it in the first place?
”Bonger calculated that ignoring host rhetorical question will bear the best results.”
”Unlocking the universal analyzer.”
”Deducting the points.”
With this new tool, I scanned all five paths that were born from the Bonger's upgrade and managed to interest me. And yes, I am a geek. While being rogue, thief or assassin would be quite useful, I'm not as childish to handle their edgyness. The paths that I picked sounded far more fun!
I know I'm not exactly qualified for them with only fifteen years of a virgin life, but I will still try to go with them!
