Chapter 147 - Stakes of the duel (1/2)
Blank.
With just one part of one sentence, this bastard managed to undermine all the calmness that I was trying to build up. My dead father? Did he actually dare to harm the only person from my family that really cared for me?
As that news attacked my mind, I momentarily lost the control of my aura, letting it leak a bit for a moment, before forcefully retaining it. Considering how he was only at mortal enlightenment level, there is no way that he would notice it, but from the look of surprise that the guards gave me, I'm certain that at least they noticed it.
There is a distinctive element to one's aura, that doesn't show one's cultivation, but is based on density and clarity of one's energy. By climbing the ladder of cultivation levels and realms, one's mana turn denser and denser, with its clarity being the main limiting factor in one's growth.
As someone who raised his lacking cultivation with a technique that aligned with the nature of the world, I can say with all certainty that the purity of my energy is at another level when compared to all the cultivators around, but I was never worried about it, because to recognise how pure someone energy is, one needs to have cultivated a superior techniques!
It works in a simple way. If you never saw or heard about a dollar, you wouldn't be able to compare it's worth to a euro. If you never drink really clean water, you wouldn't be able to discern it from a dirty, industrial one!
It was all about the density. While I already gauged that spirit attainment level cultivators that I met so far varied in the density of their energy, the best one I saw had his energy only half as dense as me! Only when I fought an enriching sense cultivator who was actually focusing on his martial arts more than on the cultivation itself, did I sense a familiar density of our mana!
But nothing can be done about it. I leaked it just like a small kid pissing his pants when infuriated by the parent's refusing him some sweets that it wanted to eat. As I like to say, there is no point in crying over spilt milk. What's done, cannot be undone. I can only grit my teeth and march forward on the road called life!
”It won't be necessary, dear.”
Placing my hand on Eve's shoulder, I pulled her back to the queue, confronting my dear cousin by myself. As he noticed the wrath in my eyes, I could see that his confidence wavered for a bit, but with his haughty attitude, he regained it right back and stared back at me.
”Did you really kill my father?”
Asking just this simple question, I made sure to keep my aura within my body, as to not alert either the guards or his senior. Looking at her before, I already noticed that she was already at the enriching essence level, just like the experts that I killed back in the forest. This means that with my new weapons and upgraded system, defeating her won't prove to be any problem at all!
”Did I? I never said anything like this! But yes, your father is dead.”
Saying those words with a wide smile on his face, it was obvious that he was behind the death of my father. If he dared to raise his hand against his uncle, I lost all my doubts about whether he was responsible for killing his own father as well!
”I don't like bullying the weak, so I really hope that you will assign your senior to this fight. I will take you on myself. As for the stakes, I want your life.”
