Chapter 49 - Let’s Play A New Game. (1/2)
Yan Luan had blinked in surprise when she saw her best friend mumbling about how the emperor was a wolf hidden in plain sight. Truly, she had felt a sense of kinship with Yuan Jun, but still, she had respected him as a true emperor.
It was especially the case in her past life, though they were extremely intimate, their interactions were merely one between siblings, plus the fact that she pitied his life as a puppet emperor, and thought he might need a true friend or family.
His was a life of misery, as he was but a puppet throughout his life, unable to do things he truly desired, and later, when he was no longer of use to the Queen Dowager, he was simply poisoned to death by his own mother. It was truly an unfortunate life, just like hers.
And now, her best friend was mumbling complains about him, though in a soft and sentimental manner, while he sat nearby with a gentle smile plastered on his face.
“Your Majesty, FuYuan is already pregnant with your child, what are your future plans?” Yan Luan asked curiously.
She had heard about her best friend’s deal with the Queen Dowager, about how she had received her position as the future Queen, but from past events, preparing for an Emperor and an Empress Consort’s wedding would usually take not less than half a year, sometimes even taking longer than a year!
Her best friend did not mind waiting for it, but the child within her could not, as it might tarnish her reputation as someone who had gotten pregnant before marriage, and her right as Empress Consort might be taken away.
“I have already discussed it with the Queen Dowager, and we have decided to hasten the process of the wedding preparations.” He answered truthfully.
Yan Luan nodded in relief as she stared at her friend, who was resting within Yuan Jun’s arms with a look of content on her face. Caught up in her destiny, her best friend had came to this world by accident, but she was truly glad that her friend could find true happiness here.
“I have heard news of what happened with Wang AnZhi, I truly think that what Cousin Jing was admirable, though his actions were somewhat hasty. The situation at court hasn’t been favorable recently, and his actions would bring him plenty of problems in the future.”
But though his words were grim, his face was anything but worried, if one would search for a word for his expressions, it would be a mixture between joy and sneer.
His position as Emperor had always been power and authority held within Wang Yong’s palms, which was why he had prayed for the day that someone would swoop in and finish off that damn old man. True, his cousin had been hasty in his anger, but his actions were favorable, as the court is now forced to pick a side.
Yan Luan’s face grew slightly sullen at his words, this entire situation arose because of her, and though House Wang had not wage a war against her elder brother, she had heard rumors about how Wang Yong had picked a fight with Yan Jing at court, but fortunately, he had came out unscratched.
“Be at ease, Your Majesty, elder brother said he could handle it.”
It did not take long for both of them to take their leave, but before Yan Luan could retire to her room, her mother’s attendant, Zhao Yu, had arrived in a hurry, claiming that her mother is requesting for her arrival at the main hall, as Yan Fei had returned.
“Yan Fei?” Yan Luan gasped in surprise.
Zhao Yu, too, had exclaimed in shock when she heard the news previously, and she quickly lowered her voice as she whispered into Yan Luan’s ears, “She had been brought back by the Lord, this one had heard that she was kidnapped and raped by a ruffian, resulting in her pregnancy.”
When she arrived at the main hall, Princess YongKang and Yan Rong could be seen sitting on the top of the stage as they were the masters of the family.
She bowed slightly in greetings to her parents before turning her gaze at her weeping sister on the ground. To her surprise, the pure and innocent white lotus maiden was no longer, replaced by a haggard married woman in merely three months.
She had almost failed to recognize her elder sister!
The Yan Fei from before had worked hard to keep a soft spoken and kind facade for all to see, and together with her beautiful face, it had caught the interests and pity of many young masters from the other prestigious houses, all wishing to take her as a mistress even though she was merely an illegitimate daughter of House Yan.
But now, all that was left was a yellowed-skin woman, her previously long and silky hair was now tangled and reduced to shoulder length, while her broken legs and left wrists were mysteriously healed.
It was until much later that Yan Luan heard about how much her elder sister had gone through. Basically, in the beginning, Yan Rong had sent her back to Bian Shi, her late mother’s family home in the countryside.
Yan Fei had lived in fear for more than a month, afraid that Princess YongKang would send someone to take her life, but alas, it did not happen as she feared.
But still, she had grew up with a luxurious lifestyle, hence, when her fear faded, so did her gratitude for her late mother’s family. She began to voice out her complains about how horrible the living environment were at the town, causing anger throughout the entire family, which finally resulted in having herself kicked out from the house that she despised so much.
Her legs were already healed at that point, so she figured she could beg Yan Rong to allow her to return, or she could return to her husband, Chu Meng and beg for mercy, but it was not viable, as she had no money to purchase her ride. With no other choice available, she had decided to walk herself back to the city, only to be kidnapped by a wandering ruffian. After many tries, she had finally managed to slip an SOS letter to someone, begging them to send it to her father, hence saving herself from that hellhole.
But still, it was already too late for her, as she was already two months pregnant by the time she was saved.
