Chapter 7 - YAN FEI’S SCHEMING (1/2)
CHAPTER 7: YAN FEI’S SCHEMING
In those years, the South Army made a major move by invading the territory, slaughtering from Zhuji City all the way down to the Bei Qing’s Ye City. Yan Rong left his government office and led an army to repel the enemy, leaving behind Princess Yong Kang to tenaciously defend the residence, but the enemy forces bore down menacingly and chaos quickly arisen within the Imperial City’s wall.
Princess Yong Kang was a woman with a valiant stratagem. She ordered at once for the women and children of the family along with palace guards to flee to Luoyang City. However, they met with countless enemy troops along the way, so they lost all of their gold and jewellery, and later they also lost more than half of their footmen and palace guards from the riot at midnight and bandit’s attack. Looking at the dire situation, Bian Shi immediately brought her son to escape the chaos.
Princess Yong Kang was hurt in the riot, but luckily, Zhou Su generalissimo that led the army was passing through and gave a hand to save Princess Yong Kang, at last delivering them safely to Luoyang City to recuperate. One year later when the war finally settled down, Emperor Shun sent people to welcome back his own full-blooded sister.
The Princess Yong Kang who came back to Marquis Huai Yin’s residence had just recovered from a serious illness, when she saw that Bian Shi was flushed with success by being pregnant. She then realized that Yan Rong dispatched people within the troops to take Bian Shi back when they were attacked in the riot.
She remembered her own second son that she lost in the middle of the riot and her soul seemed like it was stabbed several times by a rusted knife. Princess Yong Kang was furious and ordered a retainer to choke Bian Shi’s 3 year old son to death in front of his own mother.
Bian Shi already ceased to exist when Yan Rong finally came back in a hurry. He could only knelt on the ground and begged Princess Yong Kang to leave out his Shu daughter that hadn’t reached 7 months old yet and gave her a name of Fei.
Yan Fei was only younger by one year from Yan Dao, at 18 years old, she’s still yet to be married so she quickly became an object of ridicule among the nobles in Ye City. Being born of a concubine, she couldn’t find favor from anybody so she persistently stir up gossips of the princess’ bad luck from sentencing her concubine mother to death, so much so that all the concubine sons of lower noble families didn’t dare to visit and propose a marriage.
“Seeing younger sister’s complexion today is a lot better, your body should also have no other inconvenience right?”
Yan Luan was born as a pretty noble girl with a golden spoon in her mouth, making Yan Fei hated her deeply out of jealousy. That day, she made Chu Yun Shang push Yan Luan to the pool with the intention of murdering her, but Yan Luan narrowly escaped death and kept on living.
“I’m already cured a long time ago, thanking elder sister’s concern.”
The midsummer’s heat was too heavy, the maid changed the ice blocks every two hours to avoid the heat, setting them at the corner of the room, while another maid lightly fanned for more breeze to cool them down. Yan Fei added some more crushed ice inside her scented tea and said, “There will be a poetry gathering in the north suburb tomorrow, does younger sister willing to accompany older sister to go there together?”
Poetry gathering? Yan Luan who hadn’t gone out of the residence in half a month was filled with joy. Although she knew Yan Fei had other intention, she couldn’t extinguish her wish to go out and take a stroll around.
“Alright.”
Hearing her promise, Yan Fei smiled, curving her eyes and brows.
Once Yan Fei went out, Yan Luan’s wet nurse’s face became cold, lightly fanning Yan Luan while saying: “Why did WengZhu promised her? That cheap woman is definitely scheming something. Last time WengZhu suffered because of her trick, I’m afraid tomorrow…”
Yan Luan’s small mouth was nibbling on the osmanthus cake, the edges was raised as if she was smiling: “Momo is overanxious, I want to know what she wants to do tomorrow… That’s right, I don’t know if the young miss of Jiang family will go too?”
Jiang ShaSha was beside her that day when the traffic accident happened. When Yan Luan fell into the water, the young miss of Jiang family was also pulled along with her. She became Yan Luan, is it possible that Jiang Shasha also transmigrated into Jiang Fu Yuan?
The country of Yan valued military achievement, while the country of Qi valued academic achievement. Every year at the beginning of spring, midsummer, cold autumn and the depth of winter, all of these four seasons have their own poetry gathering conducted by all kinds of learned scholars. They invited famous literati to come from near and far lands of Qi to carry out academic exchange.
There were no lack of young and charismatic noble sons coming, and little by little, the once insipid poetry gathering began to attract Ye City’s noble women’ good graces. As time passes, the poetry gathering also became a disguise event for blind dates.
Next day in the early morning, Yan Luan followed Yan Fei to sit on the carriage and left for the North Suburb, accompanied by the tinkling sounds of the jade bell decorating the marquis family’s carriage, attracting numerous people’s gazes. In this era that pursued beauty, all of the people whether they’re nobles or commoners would all have the heart of loving beautiful things.
People all looked at Yan Luan’s graceful silhouette parted only with a fine curtain gauze, tickling the depths of their hearts, while someone took a move by singing a love song following the carriage.
