Chapter 7:Heiress (1/2)
Qian Meigui woke up to the sound of visitors. She then changed into something simple from her nightwear and headed down the stairs.
The housekeepers greeted her before entering the main room. The main room was grand with a high ceiling and chandelier hanging, and articulate furniture.
”Good Morning Miss Song Mei.”
Qian Meigui asked Mrs. Li, ”Who is here?”
Mrs. Li appeared unsettled and informed her of which guests arrived. ”It's your grandmother; she's here.” Qian Meigui gaped in surprise.
Qian Meigui overheard Song Ren speaking in a self-justified tone, and everything else was silent. She hesitated to walk in, but she knew she had to greet her family out of respect.
Entering the room, she could see Song Rui sitting next to Mrs. Song on a custom-made couch imported from France. Grandmother Song sat on an armchair while holding her chestnut brown cane.
Qian Meigui glanced over at Song Sheng, who wore a casual white long-sleeved buttoned shirt with black pants; and sat parallel of Song Rui And Mrs. Song, looking expressionless. Song Ren stood still in the head of the room.
Song Ren stopped speaking when Qian Meigui walked in.
Qian Meigui bowed her head lightly and greeted her parents and grandmother.
Song Rui— her adoptive father— brows softened as Qian Mei walked in. He acknowledged her but did not say anything.
It was Grandmother Song who spoke. ”Mei, What do you think of Sheng joining my company?” She asked.
Stunned, Qian Meigui did not know how to respond.
”Mother, Mei has nothing to do with this. Do not scare the girl,” said Mr. Song with a deep tone.
Grandmother Song smiled. ”I want to know what she thinks,” she said to her son. Song Rui quieted, and she returned to Qian Meigui, ”What do you think? Be truthful, girl.”
Qian Meigui looked nervous as she tried to compose herself. If she were Song Ren, she would have to be smart about her response.
”I believe that if this is truly what Song Sheng wants, then I think he should pursue any career that deems fit. I also believe the Ren would take care of the Pharmaceutical company well, perhaps better than him.”
Initially, Grandmother Song looked sternly cold at her, but then she smiled with a hint of amusement. ”Indeed,” Grandmother Song said.
