Chapter 100

”Xander.” James knew who it was before he even turned around. Sure enough, the developer was there, floating lazily in the air in his dark cloaked avatar.

”How's it going James. Enjoying your last peaceful day within DCO?” The fact that Xander referred to DCO as peaceful, would have made James chuckle under any other circumstance. After all, James had just slaughtered thousands of players with dickens less than 2 days ago in DCO. That was anything but peaceful.

”I was, until you showed up.” James waved a tentacle at the developer dismissively, as if he were trying to close out of a screen. ”Don't you have anything better to do? Maybe you should be helping BLANK prepare for their first loss.”

Xander's lips pursed together for a moment, before he smiled evilly, a light chuckle echoing out. ”There are many things I could be doing rather than gracing you with my presence, boy. However, we had a deal, and I simply wished to remind you of that fact, before you say, forgot.” Xander waived a hand, and a massive statue of himself appeared before James.

”I do believe you were supposed to establish a shrine to the great, all powerful god, Yarx, on your third floor.” Honestly, James had forgotten. He had lost himself once again to his floor creation, his mind wiping away thoughts of BLANK, and Xander, and all the behind the scenes. He had been able to, for a short while, lose himself to the game. But alas, now the prick was back, and unsurprisingly, still acting true to form.

”Ah, right, how could I forget.” As James spoke, the shrine disappeared once more, and Xander nodded slightly.

”Right, well as long as you hold to your end of the deal, everything should be fine.” Xander looked around the floor, glancing into the trees where some of James's Jolly Dolly's had decided to watch the duo.

”Though, really now, I wish the floor was a bit more, fitting of a shrine in my visage.” The developer paused, as if in thought, and then shook his head. ”Ah well, as long as the shrine is in place before you log out, all will be fine.” Xander's eyes narrowed. ”However, I do wish to remind you, I am not one you would want to anger. So, think carefully about where you plan to place my shrine.”

The threat hung in the air around them, and James figured the developer had realized the folly of his wording previously. Even though Xander had been the one to save James from a further beating from Dwight, the developer was still an asshat. And the whole BLANK situation, had just earned the shrine of Yarx its spot back in a toilet. But, alas, James figured it would probably be a dumb idea to do that now. Oh well, he could still figure something out.

”Is that all?” James crossed his tentacles, refusing to be cowed by the developer, who was definitely trying his hardest to look all powerful and intimidating.

”Hmph. For now. After Dungeon Wars start, I am sure your attitude towards me will change. You'll be begging me to call BLANK off of you.” Xander grinned. ”I will not.” The developer turned to leave, his form fading. However, before he could completely dissipate, James, his anger getting the better of him, called out.

”You want to make a bet on that?” Ugh, he had really been hanging around Rue way too long.

”And what would you have to offer me?” Xander's form solidified, and the developer's eyes took on an evil gleam. ”Perhaps, you willingly stepping away from your role as a dungeon core?”

”I-” James hadn't really thought about what he had to offer in a bet. Nor really the type of bet he was going to make. ”I-”

”Depends on what we get if we win.” Rue was suddenly at James's side, her eyes gleaming with mischief as she looked at the developer. Shit.
