44 Mutant Cores (1/2)

After retrieving his equipment, Long Yu drove over to the corpses of the mutant beasts.

He decided to label them as 'beasts' instead of 'monsters' since they technically evolved from animals.

After making sure that it was safe, Long Yu and Xixi got off the car. He had actually not wanted Xixi to come along as there was nothing fun about viewing corpses. But since she insisted, he didn't stop her. He had no doubt such occurrences would become the norm very quickly. Therefore, she would eventually have to face such things in the future anyway.

Seeing the little girl curiously poking the corpse of the mutant snake with a stick, he could only shake his head. It seems he had underestimated Xixi's mental fortitude. Normal children her age would have run far away in tears if they saw such monstrous looking creatures.

Squatting in front of the mutant eagle's body, he directly asked the system to locate the mutant core in its body.

As expected, it was similar to the information Long Yu previously exchanged for. Mutant cores in bird species are mostly grown in their hearts.

Taking a sharp blade, Long Yu plunged it into the eagle's chest area and cut it open. He then stuck his hand into the wound to reach for its heart. Using a bit of force along with the sharpness of the blade, Long Yu disconnected the organ from the rest of its body.

Holding the heart his hand, he could feel a slight heat emitting from it. Without hesitation, he used the blade to once more open a wound, except this time directly on the heart.

After digging around for a bit, he finally pulled out bead sized object. Looking at the mutant core, which was still dripping with blood, he sighed in relief.

Ignoring the mutant snake corpse for the moment, Long Yu pulled up the system and immediately exchanged for a tube shaped object. Looking closely, one would realised that what the appeared in his hand, was actually a syringe.

Although his memory was hazy at that time, Long Yu recognised the syringe. It is a life saving item that prevented him from turning into a zombie.

Long Yu just smiled and shook his head. He held the syringe in an icepick grip and slowly inserted the needle into his arm.

Half a minute after injecting the content into his body, a warm feeling started to flow inside him.Seeing the bulging red veins on the back of his hands recede, he finally relaxed.

The most urgent problem that had been on his mind was finally settled, at least for the moment.
